HSC success rate dips, Pune moves up 4 places; 90%+ club shrinks by 842

Pune: Strict measures to curb copying, nearly 91% CCTV camera coverage, and the use of drones and other technologies led to a 2% decline in the 2026 results compared to 2025. Of the 14.33 lakh students who appeared for the exam, 12.86 lakh cleared the assessment with a pass percentage of 89.8. Two students scored 100% marks. The results were declared by Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education on Saturday.The 90% and above scorers club shrank this year. As many as 7,510 students were in this category, 842 less than last year's 8,352. Their numbers were also the lowest in the last three years.Konkan, with fewer students, topped the nine divisions with a pass rate of 94.1%. Pune division with an overall pass percentage of 91.3, secured the second rank, up from last year's 6th, among all nine administrative divisions in Maharashtra.Latur division recorded the lowest results in the state at 84.1%. Sudhakar Telang, who heads the division, attributed it to copying-free initiatives. Kolhapur division saw its pass rate fall to 89.9%, a decline of 3.7% compared to last year followed by Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar division at 88.7% with a decline of 3.5%.While the pass percentage fell across streams, commerce experienced the most significant drop of 5.65% from 92.7% in 2025 to 87% in 2026. Arts stream logged the lowest pass percentage of 78 while science stream topped with 96.4 success rate.
