Man kills wife, ends life in Jetpur village

JETPUR: A man clubbed his wife to death before committing suicide in Korali village of Jetpur taluka in Rajkot district on Monday.
According to police, accused Dhanji Rathod, 35, who migrated from his native Radhel village of Jamkandorana taluka to work as a farm labourer in Karoli, killed his wife Daya, suspecting her of extramarital relationship.
Dhanji often beat up Daya due to this suspicion. On Monday, after a violent bickering on Sunday night, Daya called her brother Jagdeesh to act as an arbiter in their dispute at a hut in the farm where she lived with Dhanji.
"Dhanji became more violent at the intervention of his brother-in-law and hounded Jagdeesh out of his hut. After this, he picked up an iron pipe and dealt repeated blows on Daya with it till she bled to death," said investigating officer inspector GS Patel of Jetpur police station.
After killing Daya, Dhanji gulped down a bottle of pesticide. He succumbed to the effects of poison before he could be taken to the hospital. Police have registered a case of murder and suicide against Dhanji. The couple is survived by five children.
