Dhanbad Civil Court Strike: Lawyers Protest Road Closure, Judicial Work Halted

Dhanbad: Judicial work at the Dhanbad civil court came to a complete halt on Thursday after the Dhanbad Bar Association (DBA) launched an indefinite strike to protest the closure of an access road located on the campus of sadar hospital. The pen-down strike by advocates severely affected court proceedings and inconvenienced the litigants and the public. The DBA said the road connects bar building and has been in use for several years. Advocates relied on this route for daily movement as well as for parking their vehicles. Recently, the district administration constructed a boundary wall which permanently blocked the passage. The sudden closure has disrupted smooth access not only for lawyers but also for litigants, elderly citizens, women, and others visiting the court.

The DBA members on Wednesday marched from the court premises to Randhir Verma Chowk, raising slogans against the district administration and demanding immediate restoration of the road. The lawyers claimed that the bar building is directly linked to the blocked route, and its closure has forced advocates to take long detours. Litigants are also facing acute problems related to parking and accessibility, leading to delays and hardship.
The association claimed that several rounds of discussions were held with the district administration on this issue, but only assurances were given, with no practical resolution.DBA general secretary Jitendra Kumar said, “The advocates have always cooperated with the administration. However, the attitude of the administration is disappointing. The strike would continue until the route is restored and a permanent parking is ensured.”
