Ranchi: Khunti police arrested an active member of the banned People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI) during an operation under Karra police station limits, officials said on Wednesday.
Khunti superintendent of police Rishabha Garg said Rajesh Mahto was arrested on Tuesday near an under-construction bus stand on the Khunti-Tirala road after police acted on a tip-off. He was allegedly heading towards Khunti for some work when a police caught him.
Police seized a country-made pistol, two cartridges, two PLFI pamphlets and three mobile phones from him. Garg said the arms and ammunition were recovered from Katamkuku village based on information provided by the arrested extremist.
Police also said Mahto, referred to as Yadav in the official statement, is an accused in a case now being investigated by the
National Investigation Agency. The case was earlier registered at Bedo police station in Ranchi.
Officials added that five more cases are registered against him in Khunti district, underlining his alleged involvement in extremist activities in the region.
