LOHARDAGA: Three-day 10th State Taekwondo Championship kicked off at GPA Cambrian Public School ground in the Bauxite city on Sunday evening. Deputy commissioner
Ratan Kumar as chief guest inaugurated the championship.
On the occasion, he gave his well wishes to all the 200 participants from different districts participating in senior, junior and sub-junior categories.
SP AseemVikrant Minz welcomed the guests as he is also the chairman of Lohardaga District Taekwondo Association which has organized the championship under the aegis of its state association.
Apart from the winners and runners medal, the overall champion will be given Saurav Suman Memorial Trophy. Some years back, the then SP of Lohardaga Subodh Prasad, who is now Deoghar SP, had initiated to organize the sate championships in Lohardaga. Two sate-level championships, which promoted local players and several of them bagged national and state-level medals, were organized during his tenure.
This was the first time the district is holding the championship on its own, which were given to the association by social policing fund initiated by SP Prasad, who had started the Saurav Suman Memorial Cup in the loving memory of his beloved son. Saurav, an extraordinary boy with versatile talents in the filed of sports, painting and education.
The present SP too has proved his interests in patronizing and promoting sports here. In the inaugural function, a section of Taekwondo players, who were also dancers presented a show. Players from all age groups demonstrated their talent.
District association secretary Ajay Kumar Mahto said the championship will conclude on January 18 with prize distribution ceremony.
