Krishnagiri: One person died and 11 others were injured in a multiple collision of vehicles at Perandapllai near Hosur on Sunday evening.
The deceased has been identified as D Ravi, 55, of Jakkarapalli near Krishnagiri. He was a manager in a private school near Hosur.
Superintendent of police (Krishnagiri district) P Thangadurai said a truck loaded with marble stones was heading from Hosur to Krishnagiri.
The driver, K Karthik, 31, from Keeripatty near Attur in Salem district, lost control of the vehicle when the brake vacuum failed unexpectedly at Perandapalli on the Bengaluru-Chennai-Salem National Highway.
“The truck subsequently collided with a car,” the SP said.
Following the collision, six cars, a container truck, and a government bus crashed into the marble-laden truck one after the other.
Ravi, S Velvizhi, 65, and her son S Bhoopesh Kumar, 35, both from Krishnagiri; N Venkatesh, 33, C Karthik, 26, S Durai, 24, R Aravind, 30, M Sabari, 32, S Mouli, 32, all from Coimbatore; H Rafiya, 21, B Thanveer Khan, 39, and T Mujuman Kousar, 24, all from Bengaluru, were injured in the
accident.
The Hudco police arrived at the spot and took the injured people to the government hospital in Hosur for medical attention.
“Ravi died at the hospital,” the SP said. Of the remaining 11, five were taken to a private hospital in Hosur, while three were transferred to NIMHANS hospital in Bengaluru at the patients’ request.
The Hudco police have filed a case against Karthik for causing the accident and have taken him into custody. The traffic on the Bengaluru-Chennai-Salem NH was affected for two hours. A case was registered, and further inquiry is on.
