SURAT: A spate of high value thefts were witnessed in the city in the past 24 hours until Saturday. Cases have been registered at different police stations and investigations begun in the thefts of cash and valuables worth Rs12.52 lakh.
Driver of a transport firm was booked at Mahidharpura police station on Saturday for stealing a tempo laden with textile products worth Rs 8.50 lakh.
Rahul Shukla, a resident of Godadara, was booked for allegedly stealing branded saris worth Rs 7 lakh along with the tempo. A police complaint was filed by firm’s owner Jagdamba Mishra when the accused failed to deliver products to a client on Friday.
An unidentified burglar stole cash and valuables worth Rs 2.87 lakh from a residence in government colony beside Surat district and sessions court in Athwalines on Saturday.
The valuables were stolen from the residence of assistant charity commissioner. Bakula Vaghela, assistant charity commissioner, lodged a complaint about the theft at Umra police station. The family had gone outstation for two days and found the house burgled on return. The burglar had entered the house after breaking the front door lock of the house and escaped with cash, gold and silver jewellery and wrist watches worth Rs 2.87 lakh.
Vaghela’s husband Manhar is ITI principal at Majuragate.
An unidentified person was booked at Rander police station for stealing Rs 1.15 lakh in cash from a furniture store at Mora Bhagal. The burglar entered Imtiyaz Gharaiya’s shop on Saturday through the window of the bathroom. The burglar removed the grill in the bathroom window with a tool and stole the cash from the shop.
