TRICHY: Tech honchos inspired confidence about India’s digital future during the eleventh graduation ceremony of the National Institute of Technology, Trichy, on Saturday. Cognizant's executive vice chairman R Chandrashekaran, who is also an alumnus of the institution, said, “The world today is a very exciting place. India, especially, is the land of opportunities-where, more than ever before, bright, curious minds are being welcomed, encouraged and helped along-be it in large corporates or startups. There has never been a better time to get started.” Students should never give up on their dreams, he said, adding, they can break it down into smaller goals and devise a strategy to fulfill it.Thirty-five students from various streams won medals for best performance in the course. President of Intel India and chairperson of NIT-T board of governors Kumud Srinivasan said, “India is changing socially, economically and digitally. Large IT companies, who made themselves India's calling card, are now joined by startups. Their focus is not on services for customers outside India, but more on internet protocol creation and product development for local consumers. This is driving digital literacy, even in the phase of low overall literacy.
The government is acutely aware of this phenomenon, which is driving its own ambitious digital agenda,” he said.S Sundarajan, institution's director, emphasized on curriculum development. He said, “A major shift in evaluation practice was introduced this year by the institute's senate. Speaking about the evaluation system, he said formative assessments were introduced for B Tech programmes.As many as 1,642 students were awarded degrees during the convocation ceremony.
