VADODARA: A man residing in Nawabwada locality in Raopura area of the city was brutally done to death on Fatehpura main road just after midnight on Friday. Rivalry with persons residing in the same area is said to be the reason behind the murder.
Mohammed Salim Sirajuddin Sheikh alias Salim Masaniyo was killed on Fatehpura crossroads at around 12.30am on Saturday.
Sheikh was killed by a group of persons who came on two-wheelers and stabbed him repeatedly with sharp-edged weapons. The incident left the people of the area shocked.
Victim's son Busra Mohammed Salim Sheikh claimed in an offence registered with city police station that Ayubkhan Pathan and his brother Ganikhan Pathan were behind the murder. He has stated that Shehzad Sheikh, Asif alias Titli Sheikh, Taufiq Sheikh and Moin Pathan came on two-wheelers and killed his father.
Police inspector S M Varotariya said Ayub and Gani were involved in gambling activities in Machhipith and Nawabwada area of the city. Deceased Salim was at loggerheads with the duo and had tipped off the police regarding their activities. "They were peeved at this and had an old rivalry with him since several years now," Varotariya said.
A series of offences have been registered in the past against Ayub and Gani. Busra told police that his father was repeatedly threatened and was attacked earlier too. Sources said Salim had also been filing applications under the Right to Information Act to get information regarding Ayub and Gani from police and other officials.
Salim used to supply material for the last rites from his residence and hence had been nicknamed Masaniyo. Sources added that he also had a shop in Raopura area that he had rented out to a garment trader.
