Section of railway overbridge caves in near Anand village
Vadodara: A portion of an under-construction railway overbridge (ROB) near Adas village in Anand district collapsed on Saturday, though no casualties or injuries were reported.
According to preliminary information, the ROB between Vadod and Adas Road stations had been under construction for a considerable period. On Saturday, a span of the approach structure between two pillars suddenly collapsed, causing panic in the area.
The collapse caused substantial damage to the under-construction structure. However, with no vehicles or pedestrians passing beneath the bridge at the time, a major tragedy was averted.
Soon after the incident, officials from the concerned agencies and technical experts reached the site and launched an inquiry into the cause of the collapse.
Vadodara Railway Division public relations officer Anubhav Saxena said the ROB over Level Crossing No. 250 between Vadod and Adas Road stations is being executed by the Gati Shakti Unit of the Vadodara Division.
Describing it as a “minor incident”, Saxena said the collapse involved approach girders during construction activities and maintained that all prescribed safety measures were being followed at the site.
“The incident site is located far from the railway tracks. There has been no impact on train operations or road traffic, and no diversion has been required,” he said.
Railway authorities said officials and representatives of the concerned agencies were present at the site and remedial measures were being undertaken. They added that all necessary safety precautions were in place to ensure the project’s safe and timely completion.
