VARANASI: A 25-year-old unemployed man was shot in a daring broad daylight attack on Malgodam Road under Sadar Kotwali police in Ghazipur district on Friday. Neeraj Rai was sprayed with bullets by unidentified assailants who came on a motorcycle.
Rai, who belonged to Karimuddinpur area, was staying at Aamghat. On Friday afternoon, he was going somewhere on his motorcycle when the attack took place.
The firing led to chaos and the shop owners pulled down their shutters.
The body was sent for post-mortem examination. The motive behind the killing could not ascertained.
Four die in mishap: Four persons died and one suffered injuries after coming under the wheels of Kathgodam-Kolkata Express near Bhupatpatti area in Jaunpur on Friday.
They were sitting on the railway tracks in the morning. On seeing Lucknow-bound Varuna Express coming on the track on which they were sitting, they ran towards the parallel track. In the meantime, the Kathgodam-Kolkata Express came on the track and they came under its wheels.
Ramdas (50), Nanhe Master (25), Shyam Sunder (47) and Mahendra (40) died on the spot while Jagdish (45) sustained serious injuries. On receiving information of the incident, the Line Bazaar police and Government Reserve Police reached the site and rushed the injured person to the district hospital. The bodies were sent for post-mortem examination. The movement of trains on Lucknow-Varanasi line remained affected for more than an hour.
Two electrocuted: Two persons, including a woman, were electrocuted when a high tension wire fell on a low tension line in Baidad village under Karma police station in Sonebhadra district on Friday. Reports stated that Malti Devi (60) and Anil (22) were doing something on the switchboards at their houses when the incident took place. Basanti, Rahul and Rajiv suffered injuries. Angry local natives kept the Mirzapur-Sonebhadra highway blocked for several hours.
Heroin recovered: The Mungra Badshahpur police in Jaunpur nabbed Raghvendra Kumar when reached the railway station with a consignment of heroin (538 grams) on Thursday night. The cost of recovered heroin was estimated to be Rs 50 lakh in the international market. During interrogation, it came to light that Raghvendra had been selected for the Army and he had to join the training after 10 days.
