Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh BJP state president PVN Madhav and Union civil aviation minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu said the Bhogapuram international airport was being built with state-of-the-art technology and would become an important centre for boosting global connectivity for the northern Andhra region.
The airport is being constructed at an estimated cost of around Rs 4,500 crore to Rs 5,000 crore over a total project area of around 2,200 to 2,700 acres.
After visiting the airport on Friday, they said that the airport is being developed at par with international standards. Rammohan Naidu said that 99.3% of the work was completed in the airport. The construction of the project was going on in partnership with leading companies under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
Modern terminal buildings, spacious runways, a cargo hub, a logistics centre, along with state-of-the-art security systems, spacious parking and transport facilities, hotels, and commercial and business spaces were being established.
Madhav and Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu said thousands of youth would get direct and indirect employment opportunities through the project. They said employment opportunities would increase not only during the construction phase but also after.
Bhogapuram International Airport will give a boost to tourism, IT and industrial sectors and will contribute significantly to the economic development of North Andhra districts, they said.
