Vijayawada: In a move to strengthen power utilities and address long-pending staff shortages, the Andhra Pradesh govt has cleared 629 assistant executive engineer (AEE) posts across key electricity organisations. The decision is expected to provide relief to unemployed engineering graduates while improving operational efficiency in the sector.
The recruitment drive will cover AP Transco, AP Genco and the three distribution companies — APSPDCL, APCPDCL and APEPDCL. Of the total posts, 200 are in Transco, 100 in Genco, 134 in APSPDCL, 60 in APCPDCL and 135 in APEPDCL, to be filled through direct recruitment.
The energy department has been pressing to fill vacancies amid rising power demand, with staff shortages affecting generation, transmission and distribution. Several substations and field divisions are operating with limited engineering staff, increasing workload and impacting maintenance and consumer services.
Energy minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar said the government is committed to strengthening the sector with adequate manpower and infrastructure. He said the recruitment will enhance field-level technical capacity and improve service delivery.
The govt has also stressed transparent, merit-based hiring while creating opportunities for qualified youth.
Employee unions have long demanded recruitment, citing mounting pressure on staff. “The recruitment of AEEs will enhance technical capabilities in field operations and improve service delivery to consumers across the state,” he added.
The proposal has been cleared by the chief minister as part of a broader employment push. The detailed notification on eligibility, reservations, and exam schedule will be issued soon, with APPSC set to conduct the recruitment. Engineering graduates from electrical, civil and allied streams are expected to be eligible.
