VIJAYAWADA: Hand-held terminal devices have been introduced in five intercity trains of Vijayawada division by the south central railway. The move will bring in transparency in allotment of berths to passengers besides facilitating paperless and digital mode for the TTEs, who need not carry manual charts for ticket checking now.
Through HHT devices, summary reports at the end of the journey would be digitally auto-generated and need no manual entries.
Vijayawada division has already procured 417 HHT devices, and training has been imparted to around 240 TTEs to make them familiar with the devices.
“The move will benefit passengers by bringing in real-time allotment of vacant berths,” said V Rambabu, senior divisional commercial manager of Vijayawada division. The ticket checking staff can now easily check tickets of passengers and mark their occupation of the accommodation. Vacancies that arise during the journey can immediately come to the notice of the TTEs who can allot the same to needy passengers on the train.
