Vijayawada: Taking a serious note of allegations against Eluru MP Putta Mahesh Yadav, Telugu Desam national president and AP chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday directed the state party leadership to submit a detailed report on the incident. A show-cause notice was also issued to the TDP MP asking him to submit his explanation within five days.
According to party sources, Naidu instructed AP state TDP president Palla Srinivasa Rao to gather complete information and submit a report on the allegations. The party high command also reportedly asked Mahesh to stay away from party programmes until the matter was clarified.
Putta Mahesh allegedly attended a rave party hosted by BRS former legislator Pilot Rohit Reddy in Moinabad, on the outskirts of Hyderabad, when the police conducted a surprise raid.
The police also confirmed that the MP tested positive for the consumption of a banned substance.
Naidu reportedly directed Srinivasa Rao to issue a notice to the MP seeking an explanation regarding his alleged involvement in the incident. He reportedly made it clear that the party would not tolerate anyone associated with activities related to drugs and that strict action would be taken if the allegations were proven.
Emphasising the party's stand on the issue, Naidu said no individual, irrespective of their position, would be spared in matters related to drugs. He also observed that the mistakes or weaknesses of individual leaders should not damage the party's reputation.
The controversy arose following developments in the Moinabad drugs case in Hyderabad. Police officials stated that six persons who attended a weekend party tested positive for drug consumption during the investigation.
According to police sources, Rohith Reddy organised a private weekend party at his farmhouse located in Aziz Nagar in Moinabad, which several guests attended, including Mahesh. The developments triggered political attention, with the TDP leadership initiating internal inquiries while awaiting further details from the authorities regarding the case.
