Vijayawada: In a partial modification of trial court orders in the Y S Vivekananda Reddy murder case, the Supreme Court on Thursday removed the one month time limit for completing further investigation in the case and directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to complete the investigation as soon as possible. The apex court said the CBI can summon anyone connected to the case, if required, as directed by the trial court.
Dr N Sunitha, daughter of Vivekananda Reddy, had moved the trial court seeking further investigation into the case. The trial court earlier allowed her petition partially and gave liberty to the CBI to investigate a specific issue. Sunitha challenged the trial court order for giving limited scope to the investigating agency without considering the larger conspiracy angle.

The CBI counsel told the Supreme Court that they are conducting the investigation pursuant to the trial court's orders. Arguing on behalf of Sunitha, senior counsel Siddharth Luthra sought modification of the time limit, as the CBI would be under pressure to complete the investigation. He also sought liberty to place any new material before the CBI in connection with the investigation.
Considering the arguments, the Supreme Court modified the trial court order and directed the CBI to complete the investigation expeditiously, while granting liberty to the petitioner to place additional material, if any, before the CBI.
