Tirupati: Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) lodged a formal complaint with the district police over a security lapse involving the gunman of TDP legislator Koneti Adimoolam at the Sri Veda Narayana Swamy temple in Nagalapuram, 64 km from Tirupati.
TTD vigilance staff first restrained the gunman when he attempted to enter the temple complex with his weapon, citing the strict prohibition on arms inside temple premises. The gunman, who couldn't abandon his weapon nor deposit it in safety in the absence of such a mechanism at the temple, stayed at the entrance of the shrine even as the MLA entered the main temple complex and completed his darshan.
Just as the MLA completed his visit and reached the Aseervachana Mandapam, Koneti Adimoolam's gunman, Nagoor, forced his way into the temple complex carrying his weapon despite desperate attempts by the TTD security staff to prevent him.
Taking serious note of the utter disregard displayed by the ruling party legislator's gunman in the security lapse episode reported at the Nagalapuram temple, TTD authorities lodged a formal complaint with the Tirupati district police administration, seeking appropriate disciplinary action on the gunman.
Tirupati SP L Subbarayudu confirmed that the gunman was withdrawn and repatriated to his parent department. "An enquiry has been ordered into the episode and Armed Reserve DSP will head the enquiry," the SP added.
