Affairs, rivalry fuel rise in murders across north Andhra region in 2025
VISAKHAPATNAM: If one goes by the statistics of the police in north Andhra Pradesh (comprising six districts_ Visakhapatnam, Anakapalle, Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR), Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam and Srikakulam), extra-marital relationships, personal rivalry and family disputes are the deadliest as it turns out to be one of the top reasons for murders in the region in 2025.
The latest police data showed that a total of 125 murders were reported in north Andhra region in 2025, an increase of over 21 per cent compared with 103 murders in 2024. Of the total 125 murders in 2025, illicit affairs were the main motive in around 40 per cent of the murders, the police observed.
In Feb-2025, Konari Prasad (28), a software professional in Bengaluru and a native of Nemalam village of Therlam mandal in Vizianagaram district, was found murdered on the outskirts of Neelam village. The police arrested two youngsters (brothers- Konari Atchutha Rao (32), and Konari Siva Krishna) in connection with the gruesome murder of Prasad. The police investigation has revealed that Prasad’s illicit affair with a relative’s wife was the reason behind the brutal murder.
A 40-year-old man, N Krishna, was murdered and buried by his 24-year-old nephew, N Sai, in Aug-2025 at Keratam village in Bondapalli mandal of Vizianagaram district, after Sai had an affair with Krishna’s wife. Police said Sai found Krishna an obstacle to his affair and murdered him to continue his relationship with the woman.
Four people of a family were arrested by Kasimkota police in Anakapalle district for killing their relative K Narayana Murthy (54) to claim his life insurance payout and they tried to depict the murder as accidental death in October this year.
Vizag city police chief Dr Shanka Brata Bagchi said Vizag city reported 38 murders, including three murders for gain in 2025. Of the total 38 murders, illicit affairs were the motive in nine murders, and family disputes were motive in six murders, he added.
In Srikakulam district, the number of murders increased to 26 in 2025 from 17 in 2024. The police observed that extra-marital relationships and personal rivalry were the main motive behind around 70 per cent of the total murders in 2025.
The police observed that most recent cases where the killings mostly had to do with extramarital affairs and found feelings of betrayal and fear of getting caught were the immediate provocations. Analyzing the data will help the police to control or investigate such types of cases in the future, they added
Most murders linked to affairs occurred due to sudden provocation, and such killings were reported in both urban and rural areas. Police stations were flooded with complaints in which either the husband or the wife had leveled allegations of infidelity against his of her partner. Counselling the partners by elders in the family was one of the solutions to prevent such crimes, they added.
