Intense rainfall to continue in coastal AP till Tuesday: IMD
Visakhapatnam: Heavy rains lashed parts of north coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP), including Vizag city on Sunday, as the well-marked low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal turned into a depression over westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal. The downpour has led to waterlogging of roads, landslides, traffic snarls, delay of flights and trains. According to India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast, north coastal AP is likely to experience heavy to extreme rainfall on Monday and heavy rain in few parts on Tuesday. The IMD issued a ‘red’ warning (to take action) suggesting extremely heavy rains at isolated places over Srikakulam, Manyam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam districts on Monday (Sept 9), an ‘orange’ warning (to be prepared) for heavy to very heavy rains at one or two places in ASR and Anakapalle districts, and a ‘yellow’ warning (to be updated) for heavy rains at isolated places over East Godavari and Kakinada districts for Monday. The weather system is expected to move towards north Odisha-West Bengal coasts and intensify into a deep depression on Monday. The IMD stated that Vizianagaram recorded the highest rainfall of 11 cm between Sep 7 (8.30 am) and Sep 8 (8.30 am), followed by 10 cm each in Tiruvuru (NTR) and Kalingapatnam (Srikakulam), 9 cm each in Nellimarla and Denkada in Vizianagaram district and Bheemili in Vizag city. To ensure immediate action to deal with emergencies during heavy rain, Vizag district administration set up control rooms.

IMD predicts heavy rain, thundershowers; Yellow alert issued
The India Meteorological Department forecasts partly cloudy skies with occasional rain or thundershowers in Gurgaon for the next six days, issuing a Yellow alert for necessary precautions. Temperatures will range from 25 to 35 degrees Celsius. The city's air quality index remains satisfactory, while authorities take steps to prevent waterlogging and traffic congestion.

In August, heavy rainfall damaged kharif crops over 800 hectares in Nashik and Jalgaon districts. Cotton, soybean, and maize were the major crops affected. However, the overall crop yield is expected to improve this year due to good rainfall across north Maharashtra if favorable weather conditions continue.
Heavy rains alert for Kannur, Kasaragod today
The IMD has issued a heavy rainfall warning for Kannur and Kasaragod on Saturday. Six districts including Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod are on yellow alert for Sunday and Monday. Squally weather with wind speeds up to 55kmph is expected over various parts of the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal.
