CBSE re-evaluation portal hit by DDoS attacks amid 70,000+ student requests
NEW DELHI: More than 70,000 students have already used CBSE’s post-result grievance redressal process, even as the Board’s verification and re-evaluation portal faced multiple cyberattack attempts in its first few days of operation. According to information shared by CBSE and reported by ANI, a total of 70,433 successful applications had been received as of June 4, 2026.The figure includes 7,314 applications for verification of marks and 63,119 applications for re-evaluation. The latest update comes amid heightened attention on CBSE’s digital infrastructure following the introduction of the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system and the subsequent rollout of online post-result services for Class 12 students.Portal records heavy traffic after launchAccording to ANI, quoting CBSE, the verification and re-evaluation portal was activated at approximately 4.30 AM on June 2 after undergoing an emergency security hardening and validation exercise. The Board said the process included penetration testing, vulnerability assessment, load testing and stress testing with specialised cybersecurity support before the platform was opened to students.
CBSE stated that additional safeguards such as Web Application Firewall (WAF) protection, Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) mitigation systems, secure authentication controls, audit logging and continuous monitoring mechanisms were implemented before launch. The Board further said that within two minutes of becoming operational, the platform recorded nearly 1.5 million access requests. According to the information shared with ANI, more than 100,000 unauthorised access attempts were also detected and blocked during the same period.DoS attack blocked, says CBSECBSE also disclosed that the portal was targeted by a Denial-of-Service (DoS) attack on June 3. According to ANI, the Board said the attack involved nearly 3.8 million packets directed at the system.Despite the attack, the portal remained functional due to timely intervention by technical teams and the security infrastructure deployed before launch, CBSE said. The Board noted that traffic analysis indicated coordinated bursts of high-volume requests consistent with DDoS-type patterns, which were successfully mitigated through the security architecture in place.Verification and re-evaluation process continuesThe online facility is available to students who have already obtained scanned copies of their evaluated answer books. Through the portal, candidates can report issues such as missing pages, missing supplementary sheets, blurred scans, incorrect answer books or evaluation against a different question paper set.Students may also seek re-evaluation of specific answers by identifying question numbers and page references. CBSE has stated that all requests submitted through the portal will be examined under the prescribed post-result procedures and that the outcomes will be communicated after completion of the process.
