The RG Kar rape-murder protests have taken the state of West Bengal by storm. The common people have come out on the streets, raising their voices and demanding justice. In the wake of this incident, the Bengali entertainment industry has been affected substantially. Several films which were scheduled for release in September have been postponed. Despite grappling with losses, Tollywood is now gearing up for
Durga Puja releases.
Srijit Mukherji’s anticipated film ‘Tekka’, which is slated to release in this Pujo, recently launched the character posters featuring Rukmini Maitra, Swastika Mukherjee and Dev. The official poster of the film is now out.
As Bengal is fuming in anger right now and spending night after night out on the street demanding justice and reform in the system, the masses are hardly in the mood to consume any content for the sake of entertainment. On top of that, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s call to ‘come back to festivities’ has left them more irked. There is very little enthusiasm in them regarding Durga Puja even; which is the biggest festival in Bengal and is less than a month away. In this situation, several people have called to boycott upcoming films. However, artists like Swastika Mukherjee, who has been present on the streets supporting the movement from the early days, has made a plea to the people, requesting them to understand their ground as professional actors. Swastika has reasoned that what is entertainment for everyone else, is the bread and butter for them. Netizens have come forward and supported the same.
The official poster of ‘Tekka’ sees Rukmini, Dev and Swastika in their character avatars. Dev aka Iqlakh, who is the Jack of all trades is seen holding a gun to a little girl’s head. Rukmini’s Maya and Swastika’s Ira are seen on the poster as well.
On Tuesday, Dev’s character from ‘Tekka’ was revealed. Dev’s character Iqlakh, who is ‘Jack of the deck’, was shown in untidy clothes, holding a mop, symbolizing his gritty, all-encompassing role.
Swastika Mukherjee’s character poster showed Ira wearing a saree and carrying a teddy bear. Her character was placed on the Queen of the deck of cards. On the other hand, Rukmini Maitra’s Maya, dressed in a leather jacket with a cropped haircut and sunglasses, was placed on King of the deck. She was seen wielding a gun, radiating a fierce, commanding presence.
‘Tekka’ marks the second collaboration between director Srijit Mukherji and actor Dev, following their previous project, ‘Zulfiqar’. In addition to acting, Dev also serves as the producer of the film, which stars Swastika Mukherjee, Tota Roy Chowdhury, Kaushik Sen, and others.
‘Tekka’ is set to release on October 8.
