Kurayukaba, Kuramerukagari anime films showcase main trailers and visuals

On Thursday, the team behind the original full-length anime film project, "Kurayukaba," and its spinoff, "Kuramerukagari," showcased their main visuals and full trailers. Providing a sneak peek into the world of "Kurayukaba," the trailers featured Charan-Po-Rantan's "Naisho no Uta" as the theme song, while "Bokura no Hakoniwa" by Masayoshi Ōishi set the tone for "Kuramerukagari."

Set to premiere in Japan on April 12, both films boast a star-studded cast, including Kanda Hakusan as Soutarou, Tomoyo Kurosawa as Tanne, Yū Serizawa as Saki, Setsuji Satoh as the Command Team Leader, and more.

Shigeyoshi Tsukahara, known for works like "The Man Traveling with the Brocade Portrait" and SEKAI NO OWARI rock band's in-concert anime footage, marked his feature-length directorial debut with "Kurayukaba." He is credited for the original story and screenplay, while Kazunori Minagawa, the animation director behind hits like "Macross Delta" and "Code Geass: Akito the Exiled," designed the characters.

The film's digital cutout animation director was maxcaffy, with Chōta Akatsuki serving as the animation supervisor. Pochi handled art setting, and Kentarō Ōnuki took on the role of art director. Eriko Kimura served as sound director, Katsuhiro Nakano managed sound effects, and Tohokushinsha oversaw sound production. Akatsuki also composed the music, with Team OneOne handling animation production.

Having clinched the Best Animated Feature in the Audience Awards category at the 27th Fantasia International Film Festival, the film is now competing at the Niigata International Animation Film Festival from March 15-20.

Shigeyoshi Tsukahara holds credits for the original work, screenplay, and direction of the film, while Ryohgo Narita, known for "Baccano!" and "Durarara!!," is credited with the original concept. Ayane Sakura stars as Kagari in "Kuramerukagari," which serves as the opening film for this year's Niigata International Animation Film Festival.

The journey of "Kurayukaba" began with a successful crowdfunding campaign from December 2018 to February 2019, raising 276% of its initial goal. The campaign funded the pilot film and exceeded its stretch goal for an extended video.

Meanwhile, "Kuramerukagari" adapts Ryohgo Narita's novella, available to backers at the "Rental Shop" tier during the crowdfunding campaign.

Initiated in April 2020, Twin Engine's Motion Gallery crowdfunding campaign aimed to raise 20 million yen for a 40-minute film. The campaign concluded in August 2020, securing 8,798,500 yen.
