Arshad Warsi reveals why ‘Munna Bhai Chale America’ was shelved; Shah Rukh Khan's popular film is the REASON
Arshad Warsi, widely known for his role in ‘Munna Bhai MBBS’ as Circuit, recently opened up about why ‘Munna Bhai Chale America’ was dropped after its announcement poster was released. The actor also shared that he almost walked away from several movies.

Why ‘Munna Bhai Chale America’ was shelved

In an interview with The Lallantop, Arshad Warsi explained that the makers decided to abandon the project after realizing it closely mirrored another film. He said, "As far as I know, 'My Name Is Khan's (2010) story turned out to be very similar to that of 'Munna Bhai Chale America'. In this movie too, we both (Munna Bhai and Circuit) were to meet the US president.”He added that director Rajkumar Hirani is extremely particular about originality. "Rajkumar Hirani does not like it when his work resembles other movies," Arshad shared, citing how Hirani even rewrote the second half of 'PK' multiple times after learning about ‘Oh My God’.

When Arshad Warsi wanted to say no

Arshad Warsi also recalled being close to rejecting 'Munna Bhai MBBS'. At the time, he felt stuck doing minor roles and feared Circuit would be another forgettable part. "I no longer wanted to do small roles," he said. “So, I was on my way to tell him that, ‘Sir, please call me only if you have good roles. If I keep doing such small characters, my career will be ruined.'"

How a tarot reader changed his mind

On his way to decline the film, Arshad Warsi met tarot card reader Ritambhara Dewan.
After hearing about the project, she urged him to take it up. He remained unconvinced and told her, “You don’t understand how the industry works. Considering the kind of roles that I have been receiving, even if the movie turns out to be the world’s best, nobody would still recognize me.” She also predicted a change in the film’s female lead, Tabu.

What happened at the office?

When Arshad reached Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s office, he noticed Gracy Singh had replaced Tabu due to date issues, partially validating the prediction. Still hesitant, he finally agreed to do the film for Rajkumar Hirani. “My only request was to give me the freedom to have fun,” he said. That freedom helped shape Circuit into the pop culture icon audiences still adore.

On the work front

Arshad Warsi will be seen in the upcoming movie ‘King’ starring Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, and Suhana Khan.
