Dil Dhadakne Do: Why it is the film we have been waiting for

Zoya Akhtar's comedy-drama Dil Dhadakne Do seems to have hit it off with the audience as it has managed to earn a decent Rs 36 crore in the first weekend.

The film performed best in the Mumbai region followed by Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru and Pune. The weekdays will be extremely crucial for the film as it will have to compete with Mohit Suri's Hamari Adhuri Kahani and Hollywood flick Jurassic World in the following week.

In an interview with Mumbai Mirror, Aamir Khan opened up about being the 'voice' of a canine narrator in Dil Dhadakne Do. The actor admitted that the director took him by surprise with this last-minute offer to voice-play the role. When she invited him to a screening of her film, he'd assumed that she just wanted his opinion, the report stated. After they had finished watching the film, she told the actor that she wanted him to do the voice-over for Pluto who claims to be "only sane member of the Mehra family," the report further stated. "Javed saab (Pluto's dialogue writer and Zoya's father Javed Akhtar) had written the lines and spoken them in the cut that we watched. Zoya wanted me to dub the lines," Aamir said to Mirror. "There was no time to think. I trusted Zoya blindly so if anyone likes my work, the credit goes to her. And if they don't, it's also her fault," chuckled Aamir. "Now, Kiran and I have two cats and a dog called Imli. But none of my dogs has been a philosopher like Pluto," quipped Aamir.

Anil Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra danced their hearts out at the screening of their film, Dil Dhadakne Do, in Kuala Lumpur. The actors, who play father and daughter in the film, showed their fun side as they broke into an impromptu jig on the IIFA green carpet. Their dance was completely unsynchronised as they showed off their Punjabi moves. For the record, the DDD team sans Ranveer Singh, was present at the event for the world premiere of the film.

Ranbir Kapoor was first offered Zoya Akhtar’s Dil Dhadakne Do but the actor had turned down the proposal after which the role went to Ranveer Singh. Ranveer plays Priyanka Chopra’s brother in the film. Apparently, since Ranbir refused to do the film, Kareena Kapoor, who wanted to work with him as his on screen sister, also walked out of the film. Talking about it, in an interview with DNA.com, Ranbir says that he believes that films are written in an actor’s destiny. He further added that he does not like talking about films which he is not a part of. Ranbir had earlier cited date issues for refusing Zoya Akhtar’s film which also stars his Bombay Velvet co-star, Anushka Sharma.

According to the promise made, Farhan Akhtar held a special screening of Dil Dhadakne Do for Milkha Singh. The cast and crew was also present for the special screening and even clicked pictures with the great sprinter. Sharing a group picture on his Facebook profile, Ranveer wrote, "Good times! smile emoticon ‪#‎DilDhadakneDo‬ ‪#‎4DaysToDDD‬ ‪#‎MilkhaSingh‬ ‪#‎Legend." [sic] Ranveer also shared another picture, this time a selfie, with the sportsman and wrote, "Blessings for ‪#‎DilDhadakaneDo‬ from The Great Man Himself ! Truly honoured to have met him! ‪#‎MilkhaSingh‬ ‪#‎Legend‬ ‪#‎Selfie‬" [sic]

However, she was quick to add that it didn’t make any difference and that she was happy with the people she got to work with.
