Election Results 2022: Speculations rife about new team Yogi, prominent faces may get key roles
The BJP's lotus bloomed again in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand while AAP's broom swept away opponents in Punjab as elections results for five states were declared today. On a day when Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP steamrolled its opponents to score a landslide win in Punjab, smashing the stubborn historical barrier that has hitherto restricted regional parties to their home ground, it was the BJP-led Modi that dwarfed the field elsewhere, its pre-eminence stamped starker than ever before. What was being predicted as a ‘close contest’ turned out to be a one-sided affair with BJP winning or leading in 47 out of the 70 assembly constituencies in Uttarakhand at the time of going to press. Congress, which had been saying it was confident of securing a majority, had a win or lead in only 19 seats, while 2 seats each went to BSP and independents.

Adityanath wins Gorakhpur Urban seat with whopping margin of 1.03 lakh votes
Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath trounced his nearest Samajwadi Party rival Subhawati Upendra Shukla by a margin of 1,03,390 votes from the Gorakhpur Urban assembly seat on Thursday. According to the Election Commission figures, the BJP leader polled 1,65,499 votes while the SP candidate got 62,109 votes. Adityanath got 66.18 per of the total votes cast, while the SP candidate got 24.84 per cent.

After scoring victories in four states, the BJP appears to have set its eyes on the next round of elections, including in Gujarat, with Prime Minister Narendra set to undertake a massive roadshow in Ahmedabad on Friday.
The term of the Gujarat assembly ends on January 8 next year, and the state is expected to go to polls this December. Besides, elections are also due in Himachal Pradesh alongside Gujarat.
