Bypoll Results 2022 Live Updates: Votes were counted for six assembly constituencies in five states and the high-profile Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat. Assembly seats where bypolls were held are - Rampur and Khatauli in Uttar Pradesh, Padampur in Odisha, Sardarshahar in Rajasthan, Kurhani in Bihar and Bhanupratappur in Chhattisgarh.

While Sardarshahar and Bhanupratappur were held by the Congress, the BJP had won in Khatauli and the SP held Rampur. Padampur was with the BJD and Kurhani was held by the RJD. The by-election results will not have any impact on the central and state governments as ruling parties enjoy a comfortable majority.

There was a close fight between BJP and RJD in the by-election to the Kurhani assembly constituency in Muzaffarpur district in Bihar. Samajwadi Party candidate Dimple Yadav won in the Mainpuri Lok Sabha constituency, while RLD and SP candidates leading in the Khatauli and the Rampur Sadar seats respectively in Uttar Pradesh. Congress candidate Savitri Manoj Mandavi is leading in Bhanupratappur, Chhattisgarh. The ruling BJD extended its lead to 8,178 votes over the BJP in the by-poll to the Padampur assembly seat in Odisha's Bargarh district. ByPoll results: BJP establishes lead in Kurhani assembly seat after round 1
The opposition BJP established an initial lead in the by-election to the Kurhani assembly constituency in Muzaffarpur district in Bihar on Thursday, a CEO official said. BJP candidate Kedar Gupta secured 4,194 votes while the JD(U)'s Manoj Singh Kushwaha bagged 2,195 votes after the first round of counting. Altogether 13 candidates, five of them Independents, are in the fray though the contest is being seen, primarily, as between Gupta and Kushwaha. Both are former MLAs. The by-poll was necessitated by the disqualification of sitting RJD MLA Anil Kumar Sahani.

ByPoll election results: Counting begins for Mainpuri, Rampur, Khatauli seats

Counting of votes began Thursday morning for Mainpuri parliamentary constituency, previously represented by Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, and Rampur and Khatauli assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh where bypolls were held earlier this week, officials said. The counting started at 8 am and the results are likely to come in by the afternoon, they said. Mainpuri parliamentary constituency, which fell vacant after the death of SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav, registered 54.01 per cent voting.

Bypolls results: Counting begins for six Assembly constituencies in 5 states and Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat

  • Manpuri Lok Sabha seat: A high-stakes contest was witnessed in Mainpuri seat of Uttar Pradesh, where the by-election was necessitated by the demise of Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav in October. Mulayam Singh Yadav's elder daughter-in-law and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav's wife Dimple Yadav is the SP candidate in Mainpuri, while BJP has pitted Raghuraj Singh Shakya, a former confidant of Mulayam's brother Shivpal Singh Yadav. Notably, the Mainpuri seat is considered a stronghold of the Samajwadi Party.
  • Rampur assembly constituency: The bypoll Rampur Sadar in Uttar Pradesh was necessitated after SP MLA Azam Khan was disqualified in a hate speech case. With the Congress and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) distanced themselves from the bypolls in Uttar Pradesh, it would be a direct fight between the BJP and Samajwadi Party and its ally Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD).
  • Khatauli assembly constituency: The bypoll Khatauli in Uttar Pradesh was necessitated after BJP MLA Vikram Singh Saini was disqualified after his conviction and sentence of two-year imprisonment in a 2013 riot case. In Khatauli, the BJP is trying to retain the seat by fielding Rajkumari Saini. She is the wife of Vikram Singh Saini.
  • Bhanupratappur assembly constituency:An anticipated direct contest between Congress and BJP is expected at the Bhanupratappur seat in Chhattisgarh after Congress MLA Manoj Singh Mandavi passed away last month. The Congress has fielded Savitri Mandavi, the wife of the deceased MLA in a bid to retain the seat while BJP has fielded a former MLA. The seat is reserved for Scheduled Tribes.
  • Padampur assembly constituency: The Padampur bypoll of Odisha was also necessitated following the demise of sitting BJD MLA Bijay Ranjan Singh Bariha on October 3.
  • Sardarshahar assembly constituency: Rajasthan's Sardarshahar seat goes to polls following the death of Congress MLA Bhanwar Lal Sharma after a prolonged illness. His seat was contested by his son Anil Kumar while BJP had fielded former MLA Ashok Kumar there.
  • Kurhani assembly constituency:In Bihar's Kurhani, the disqualification of RJD MLA Anil Kumar Sahani has prompted the polls.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Monday alleged that the police and administration prevented people from casting their votes in the Mainpuri parliamentary and the Rampur Sadar Assembly constituency in the bypolls. "What briefing has been done to the police force? They have been asked to prevent people from voting in Mainpuri. In Rampur (Sadar) also, the administration prevented people from casting their votes. All the tactics are being adopted so that people do not come out," Akhilesh Yadav told reporters in Mainpuri.
