Delhi Election 2025 Highlights: Rahul fighting to save Congress, I'm fighting to save country, says Kejriwal

"The leaders (Rahul Gandhi and Arvind Kejriwal) fought the Lok Sabha elections together and opposed PM Modi. Sometimes they fight the elections together and sometimes they oppose it...BJP is forming the government in Delhi...The people of Delhi have made up their minds to form the government of BJP in Delhi," he said.

"Today Rahul Gandhi came to Delhi. He abused me a lot. But I will not comment on his statements. His fight is to save Congress, my fight is to save the country," he said.

"Do you remember that Delhi when Sheila Dikshit was the chief minister of the national capital? ... Arvind Kejriwal had said he will clean Delhi, make it corruption-free. There is so much pollution in Delhi... Did Arvind Kejriwal make Delhi corruption-free? Arvind Kejriwal campaigns in the same way as PM Modi does and makes false promises to the people," he said.

"Do you remember that Delhi when Sheila Dikshit was the chief minister of the national capital? Arvind Kejriwal had said he will clean Delhi, make it corruption-free. There is so much pollution in Delhi. Did Arvind Kejriwal make Delhi corruption-free? Arvind Kejriwal campaigns in the same way as PM Modi does and makes false promises to the people," said Rahul Gandhi

We want equality, 'bhaagidaari' for poor, minorities, he added.

"...People of BJP and RSS are destroying the Constitution. They are spreading hatred... We travelled 4000 kilometres from Kanyakumari to Kashmir to save the Constitution. Prime Minister Modi, BJP and RSS attack Dr BR Ambedkar's Constitution every day... Only love will defeat hatred in the country...I don't want an India where the billionaires can do anything. People like Ambani and Adani have bought the whole nation and controlled all the businesses," he added.

For me, India means there should be no hatred among people and poor should have big dreams, he further said.

"The good news is that Awadh Ojha's vote will be shifted and the commission has issued order to transfer his vote, and he will be able to file the nomination," Kejriwal said.

Delhi's Chief Electoral Officer announced on Monday that cash and items worth over Rs 21 crore, including liquor, were seized within a week of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) being enforced on January 7, following the assembly poll schedule announcement.

The MCC, implemented by the Election Commission to ensure free and fair elections, regulates political parties' conduct throughout the electoral process. Voting for Delhi's 70 assembly seats is scheduled for February 5, with results to be declared on February 8.

"We are just coming back after meeting the Election Commission... The Election Commission has ordered to shift the vote of Awadh Ojha, and he will be the voter and will be able to cast his vote...he will be able to file his nomination too... The Election Commission has given full assurance that under no circumstances even a single wrong vote will be allowed to be cast... Yesterday blankets were distributed in Kidwai Nagar, shoes, jackets were distributed, money was distributed, spectacles were distributed... In this also the Election Commission has also assured us that all these activities will be stopped, so we are very grateful to the Election Commission for their response," he said.

He said that the ECI assured them that no voter fraud would take place.

"Arvind Kejriwal is deciding who will be the CM from our successful MLAs, but he is not talking about the work we did... Saying that it (AAP) is a lie-producing factory is too mild of a statement... I request Anna Hazare, who gave him a stage, to come to Delhi and see what he is doing... They should be asked why the PM Awas Yojana and Ayushman Bharat are not implemented in Delhi... Kejriwal's credibility is over... They have stopped talking about building schools, now they are talking about classrooms and they are counting the washrooms as classrooms... Kejriwal has a lot to answer," he said.

AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann and party MP Sanjay Singh reached the Election Commission of India, in Delhi.

AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal on Monday attacked the BJP raised questions regarding the inclusion of the Jat community in the Central OBC list and issues related to new voter registrations in the New Delhi Assembly seat.

Addressing a press conference here today, Kejriwal accused the ruling party of attempting to undermine the integrity of the Delhi elections.

"The BJP can abuse me as much as they want, but just tell me when will the Jat community, which is in the Delhi OBC list, be included in the Central OBC list? The Prime Minister will come to Delhi at different times and give speeches, but he should answer this question: when will the Jat community be included in the Central OBC list, as he promised in 2015?" he said.

Delhi CM and AAP candidate Atishi held a roadshow ahead of filing her nomination for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. Former deputy chief minister and senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia also joined Atishi during the event.

Speaking to ANI, Atishi attributed the enthusiastic turnout to the achievements of the Aam Aadmi Party under Arvind Kejriwal’s leadership.

“I have started my nomination rally. Today, people from every corner of Kalkaji have come to support me because they know that if any work has been done, it has been done by the Aam Aadmi Party. The reason behind the enthusiasm seen today is the work done by the Aam Aadmi Party and Arvind Kejriwal. This is the politics of work. On the other side is the politics of BJP, which only abuses, while the Aam Aadmi Party seeks votes on the basis of its work,” she said.

AAP leader Priyanka Kakkar defended chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s allegations against Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) over the use of land in the Shakur Basti slum area. She accused the BJP of being “anti-poor” and deploying bulldozers to target slum dwellers.

Kakkar asserted that Kejriwal had previously intervened to prevent bulldozer action in Shakur Basti and alleged that the BJP now plans to demolish the slums. She also dismissed the Delhi LG’s denial of Kejriwal’s claims as "lies."

“If there is any political party in independent India which is anti-poor, it is the BJP. They have repeatedly used bulldozers against those dwelling in slums. Shakur Basti, where Arvind Kejriwal held his press conference yesterday, is the same place where BJP used the bulldozer. At that time, he (Arvind Kejriwal) prevented the action. BJP has now planned to raze the slums there. As far as the LG is concerned, he is lying,” Kakkar stated.

AAP on Monday launched a new campaign song ahead of Delhi polls celebrating Lohri, titled “Phir Kejriwal nu chun lo” (“Choose Kejriwal Again”). The 1.33-minute song highlights the accomplishments of the Kejriwal-led government in sectors like health and education, alongside showcasing reduced electricity bills and improved water supply in the capital.

AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal says, "I just want to know from the BJP, when will the Jat community from Delhi be given a place in the centre's OBC list... Today at 3 pm, I, Atishi, Bhagwant Mann, and Raghav Chaddha will be going to the Election Commission. We have two issues- our Patparganj candidate Awadh Ojha, who is a voter from Greater Noida, had applied to be a voter of Delhi but has not received any information so far. The last date to fill Form 8 was January 7. CEO of Delhi issued an order where she said that the last date is 7 January. Mysteriously another order was issued saying the last date is 6 January. This is unlawful and against the guidelines of the EC. It seems something was conspired behind our backs. Has this order been issued to debar Awadh Ojha? We will meet the CEC and demand that Awadh Ojha's vote be transferred to Delhi so that he can file his nomination papers."

BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla on Monday launched a sharp critique of the Congress-led INDIA alliance, claiming it was a “situational alliance” lacking leadership, policy, and intent.

Speaking to ANI, Poonawalla remarked, “The INDIA alliance is purely opportunistic. The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has now turned into ‘Maha Vibhajan Aghadi.’ AAP and Congress have parted ways in Delhi, and TMC and Congress were not aligned in Bengal. Similarly, in Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party refused to allocate seats to Congress. During the Delhi Assembly elections, parties like SP and TMC supported AAP. This clearly demonstrates that the INDIA alliance is held together only for photo opportunities, without a cohesive leader, policy, or intent.”

Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva has accused Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of attempting to incite "religious conflict" in the lead-up to the Delhi assembly elections.

Sachdeva alleged that Kejriwal wrote a letter to the Election Commission requesting the deletion of votes belonging to Dalit residents near the Valmiki Temple in the Gol Market area.

“Arvind Kejriwal wants to incite religious conflict in Delhi,” Sachdeva said in a statement to ANI. “He has written a letter to the Election Commission, in which he requested to cut the vote of 44 people from the Valmiki Temple, situated in Gol Market. Why? Because these people are Dalits.”

The BJP leader further criticized Kejriwal for allegedly targeting specific communities. “Earlier, Arvind Kejriwal abused the people from Purvanchal, and now he is attacking the Valmiki Temple. There is a Mazar near the Valmiki Temple, with 60 voters listed who do not reside in the area. But he will not request to cut their votes. Instead, he will request the removal of votes belonging to Hindu Dalits. He is engaging in caste politics to influence the Delhi elections,” Sachdeva added.

Delhi Chief Minister and AAP candidate Atishi will file her nomination today from the Kalkaji Assembly Constituency for the Delhi Assembly polls, scheduled on February 5.

In a post on X, Atishi said that first, she would visit the Kalkaji Temple toget the blessing of Kalka Maa.

"I am going to file my nomination today. I will go to Kalkaji temple and take the blessings of Kalka Mai. Then after praying at Giri Nagar Gurudwara, I will start the nomination rally. In the last 5 years, I have received a lot of love from my family in Kalkaji. I am sure their blessings will remain with me," she said.

Speaking to ANI, the AAP leader targeted the BJP, accusing it of doing "Farzivada" in the Assembly polls.

BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal hit back at Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him of failing to deliver on promises to provide housing for slum dwellers in Delhi over the past decade.

Speaking to ANI, Khandelwal said, "Arvind Kejriwal has failed to provide houses to the slum dwellers in the national capital in 10 years. The people of Delhi have understood the politics of Arvind Kejriwal. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has promised that every slum dweller in Delhi will be given a house... The people of Delhi will teach this lying machine a lesson."

The remarks came in response to Kejriwal's recent criticism of the BJP, where he alleged that the party plans to demolish Delhi's slums in the next five years, leaving many residents homeless.

Patparganj residents commend AAP's educational reforms but express concerns about poor sewer maintenance, traffic jams, and insanitary conditions. Avadh Ojha, the new candidate, plans to transform the constituency into a competitive exam hub while addressing these civic issues to gain public trust.

Arvinder Singh Lovely (56), a former minister in Sheila Dikshit-led govt and one of the most prominent faces of Delhi Congress, resigned as Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president just ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He cited differences with the party leadership, the alliance with AAP and the selection of "outsider" candidates before joining BJP.

The Delhi BJP intends to approach the Election Commission to legally verify the funding sources for AAP candidates and others claiming to raise money through crowd funding. BJP President Virendra Sachdeva expressed concerns that AAP candidates might receive funds from entities hostile to India, urging the poll panel to ensure that the sources of funds are disclosed prior to the elections. Earlier, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri mocked AAP's crowd funding effort, questioning why they need it and insinuating that funds from the alleged liquor scam in Goa may have been depleted.

Delhi CM Atishi, seeking re-election from Kalkaji in next month's Assembly elections, hit out at her rival BJP candidate Ramesh Bidhuri for his alleged remarks on her family made last week. In an interview with PTI Videos, Atishi also claimed that her crowd-funding initiative launched on Sunday morning generated Rs 17 lakh in donations within just 10 hours.

Atishi, who defeated BJP's Dharambir Singh in 2020, said she will proceed to file her nomination for the February 5 polls at the district magistrate's office after praying at the Kalkaji temple and at a gurdwara.

On her BJP rival's recent remarks, Atishi said, "Bidhuri has shown his character. Within 24 hours of getting a ticket, he made an indecent comment on Priyanka Gandhi. In the next 24 hours, he abused me and my family from Prime Minister Modi's stage at a rally."

At a 'Parivaratan' rally of the BJP in Rohini last week, Bidhuri targeted Atishi for dropping her surname and went on to say that she "changed her father".

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday released its third list of candidates for the Delhi Assembly elections set for February 5. The list includes a single name, Mohan Singh Bisht, who will contest from the Mustafabad constituency.

With this announcement, the BJP has declared candidates for 60 out of the 70 Assembly seats.

Bisht, currently the BJP's sitting MLA from the Karawal Nagar constituency, will face competition from Aam Aadmi Party’s Adil Ahmad Khan and Congress’s Ali Mehndi in the Mustafabad seat.

Arvind Kejriwal challenged Union home minister Amit Shah to withdraw cases against slum residents and guarantee housing on the same land from which they were evicted. He accused the BJP of prioritising land acquisition over resident welfare and claimed their 'Jahan Jhuggi Wahan Makaan' scheme was ineffective. AAP aims for a third consecutive full term in the February 5 elections.

"I will be filing my nomination (as an AAP candidate from the Kalkaji Assembly constituency). I will be offering prayers at the Shri Kalka Ji Temple and my nomination rally will start from the Gurdwara at the Giri Nagar," she said.

She further added, "BJP has a habit of winning elections by committing fraud. They did the same fraud in Haryana, Maharashtra, but they were caught in Delhi. 13,000 applications were made to create new votes in the New Delhi assembly constituency... AAP will not let the BJP do any wrongdoing... If the AAP MLA has done something wrong, a case should be registered against him. A case should also be registered against BJP candidate from New Delhi assembly constituency Pravesh Verma because he is openly distributing money."
