Jammu Kashmir Election Results 2024 Highlights: National Conference (NC) Vice President Omar Abdullah won the Budgam Assembly seat in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, defeating PDP's Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi by a margin of over 18,000 votes.
The counting of votes started at 8am across 28 centers for 90 assembly seats contested over three phases.
As the final results came out, JKNC led by winning 42 seats, crossing the majority mark with alliance partner Congress who got 6 seats. BJP managed to secure 29 seats in the state.
The National Conference (NC) emerged as the major winner in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, marking a strong comeback after a decade. Led by Omar Abdullah, the party formed a pre-poll alliance with Congress, successfully defeating its arch-rival Mehbooba Mufti's PDP and the BJP. Commenting on the election trends in Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir, Congress leader Pawan Khera raised concerns about discrepancies in the data being displayed. "There is a mismatch between the actual number of rounds counted and the data shown on television through the Election Commission. The EC is lagging, still showing data from the 4th or 5th round, while 11 rounds have already been counted," Khera said.
He added that the party's General Secretary of Communications has tweeted to the Election Commission, questioning whether delays in displaying and uploading the data are an attempt to pressure the local administration. The National Conference-Congress alliance is likely to form government in Jammu and Kashmir with poll trends on Tuesday showing the combine ahead in 51 of the 90 seats while the BJP was leading in 26. Trends uploaded by the Election Commission showed that the PDP was ahead in five seats in the Union territory while the Independents are leading on seven seats.
The National Conference was leading in 41 while its ally Congress was ahead in 10 seats, the trends showed.
As the trends showed the NC ahead of its rivals, NC vice president Omar Abdullah asserted there should be no "fiddling" with the mandate of the people in Jammu and Kashmir.
"Transparency should be there. Whatever happens should be done in a transparent manner. There should be no fiddling with the peoples' mandate. If the mandate of the people is against the BJP, then the BJP should not indulge in any 'jugaad' (machinations) or something else," Abdullah told reporters here.

Ahead of the vote counting in Jammu and Kashmir, BJP's J&K chief and Nowshera Assembly candidate, Ravinder Raina, expressed confidence on Tuesday about the party’s chances of victory, predicting a win of 30-35 seats.
As the counting for the assembly elections is set to begin at 8 am, Raina, after performing a havan, stated, "We are confident that BJP and its supporting parties will secure a full majority... We will win 30-35 seats."
Former Deputy chief minister and BJP leader Kavinder Gupta also voiced optimism, asserting that the BJP would emerge as the largest party in the Union Territory and win the elections.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sajid Yousuf Shah expressed hope ahead of counting of votes in Jammu and Kashmir saying that the BJP has high expectations from people in the valley.
Speaking to ANI, Sajid Yousuf Shah alleged that the opposition parties are ready to unite to assume power otherwise they stand against each other.
"We have high expectations from the people of Jammu and especially, Kashmir, so that BJP opens its tally in the Union Territory. Even after Farooq Abdullah created the Gupkar alliance, we see that all statements made by Mehbooba Mufti and her daughter were against NC. They need to clarify if they are together just for the sake of forming the government," the BJP leader said.
