Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused Congress and its allies of politically benefiting from violence and separatism in Jammu and Kashmir, claiming that the region has "been burning for decades" due to these issues. Addressing a public gathering in Chimur on Tuesday, the Prime Minister said, "Just a few weeks ago, we saw what happened in Jammu and Kashmir. This region has been suffering due to separatism and terrorism for decades. The law under which all this happened was Article 370, a legacy of Congress. As soon as we abolished it, we fully integrated Kashmir with India and its Constitution."
Modi’s remarks were part of his campaign trail in Maharashtra, where the state is gearing up for the upcoming Assembly elections. With less than a week remaining until campaigning ends, the Prime Minister is set to address three public meetings on Tuesday in support of the MahaYuti alliance candidates.
The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition, consisting of Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), is striving to regain power in the state. The alliance faces strong competition from the ruling Mahayuti coalition, which includes the Shiv Sena faction led by Eknath Shinde, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Ajit Pawar’s NCP.
In the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections, the BJP emerged as the largest party with 105 seats, followed by Shiv Sena with 56 and Congress with 44. In the 2014 elections, the BJP secured 122 seats, Shiv Sena won 63, and Congress took 42 seats.

Leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Tuesday took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and asserted that the BJP leader has not even read the Constitution of India.

Jharkhand Election 2024 Live: 'Cong, JMM, RJD synonymous with corruption, nepotism, dynastic politics,' says Nadda
BJP president Jagat Prasad Nadda on Tuesday attacked the ruling coalition of Jharkhand comprising the JMM, Congress and the RJD, accusing them of being synonymous with corruption, nepotism and dynastic politics. He also termed the current dispensation as "Choron Ki Sarkar" (government of thieves).
Hitting out at chief minister Hemant Soren, Nadda said he is not yet absolved of charges and was just out on bail.
Soren was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on January 31 in a money laundering case linked to a land scam. He was granted bail by the Jharkhand High Court on June 28.
Nadda alleged that Soren's government not only fuelled several scams but was also behind infiltration.

A day after Shiv Sena (UBT) questioned the move of poll authorities to check the bag of party chief Uddhav Thackeray, sources in the Election Commission on Tuesday said aircraft and helicopters of top leaders across political spectrum are checked as part of standard operating procedure (SOP). They said in the previous polls too, planes and helicopters of BJP president J P Nadda and Home Minister Amit Shah were checked.
"There have been strict SOPs followed by enforcement agencies for a level playing field. During the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, a similar issue was raised in Bihar and it was clarified that the helicopters of prominent leaders, including Nadda was checked in district Bhagalpur on April 24 and Shah in district Katihar on April 21 were also checked as per SOP," a functionary pointed out.

Congress now 'frustrated', 'dejected': BJP hits back at Nana Patole's 'dog' remark in Maharashtra
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday strongly condemned Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole's controversial remarks, in which he reportedly referred to BJP leaders as "dogs." The BJP accused Patole's statement of reflecting the Congress party's growing frustration as the state approaches its assembly elections.
BJP leader Kirit Somaiya characterized Patole's comments as indicative of the deteriorating state of the opposition alliance, Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). "The MVA is clearly moving from disappointment to dejection," Somaiya said in a statement to ANI. "Sharad Pawar is making confusing statements, Uddhav Thackeray is attacking the Election Commission, and now, Rahul Gandhi's Congress is resorting to name-calling by calling the BJP 'kutta'—all because opinion polls show a clear majority for the Mahayuti alliance. Their frustration is palpable."
Patole, during a campaign rally in Akola on Monday, had accused the BJP of disrespecting the OBC community. 16 candidates vying for support of over 14 lakh voters in Wayanad LS bypoll

Jharkhand BJP president and Dhanwar assembly candidate Babulal Marandi criticised the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) manifesto, calling it a "bundle of lies." He stated, "No one trusts their manifesto. They failed to fulfil the promises in the previous one, so how can anyone believe them now?"
Responding to the denial of helicopter landing clearance for JMM candidate Kalpana Soren's campaign in Jagannathpur, Torpa, and Latehar, Marandi pointed out that BJP leaders also face similar issues. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut accused the Election Commission of bias during election inspections. He claimed Shiv Sena leaders' belongings, helicopters, and vehicles are rigorously checked, while prominent figures from the ruling alliance, such as Eknath Shinde, Ajit Pawar, and Devendra Fadnavis, face no such scrutiny. Sanjay Raut on Tuesday raised serious concerns on Tuesday about alleged financial irregularities in Maharashtra. He claimed that senior Mahayuti alliance leaders are distributing substantial sums of money, whilst the Election Commission of India remains passive.
He criticised the selective scrutiny by the ECI, questioning why surveillance appears to focus solely on opposition leaders' transport during the model code of conduct period in Maharashtra's electoral phase.
"The Election Commission does its job. You check our cars, planes, and everything. If you carry out this work impartially, we have no problem. But in Maharashtra, where Eknath Shinde, Ajit Pawar, and BJP are contesting the election, 25 crores have already reached...We also showed videos during the Lok Sabha elections of how 20-20 bags were brought via helicopters...Do you stop the convoys of Eknath Shinde, Ajit Pawar, Narendra Modi, and Amit Shah and check them?...the way money distribution is happening in Maharashtra, does the Election Commission not see this?" he stated during Tuesday's press conference.
"If someone checked PM Modi's helicopter in Odisha, that person was suspended. Does PM Modi not come under the jurisdiction of the Election Commission? Can the PM, HM and union minister distribute anything among the people?...What kind of unbiased justice is this?..." he further remarked.

What is BJP doing to prevent farmer suicides in Maharashtra, Congress asks PM
Congress on Tuesday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi raising concerns about Maharashtra and questioning the BJP's efforts to address farmer suicides in the states. Prior to Modi's rallies in Chimur and Solapur, Jairam Ramesh, Congress general secretary for communications, questioned why the BJP has weakened Adivasis' forest rights in Maharashtra.
He noted that the Congress enacted the groundbreaking Forest Rights Act (FRA) in 2006, which provided Adivasis and forest-dwelling communities with legal authority to manage their forests and benefit financially from forest produce they gather.
"The BJP government, however, has obstructed the implementation of the FRA, depriving millions of Adivasis of its benefits. Only 52% (2,06,620 claims) of the 4,01,046 individual claims filed have been granted, and land titles distributed cover only 23.5% (11,769 sq. km) of the 50,045 sq. km eligible for community rights," Ramesh stated on X.
He questioned the Maharashtra BJP government's failure to secure rights for Adivasi communities.
Additionally, Ramesh enquired about the Prime Minister's actions to resolve water shortages in Satara and Solapur.
"The scarcity of drinking water in Satara, Sangli, and Solapur has only gotten worse in recent years. Between March and April 2024, the requirement of tankers increased 13% in Sangli, 31% in Satara and 84% in Solapur. Dams, ponds and lakes in the area dried up entirely, with the situation being the worst in Solapur," he said.
