New Guwahati Assembly Constituency is a newly created Assembly constituency in Assam’s Kamrup Metropolitan district, carved out during the 2023 delimitation exercise that redrew the city’s electoral map.
The constituency largely comprises areas that were earlier part of the now-abolished Gauhati East and Gauhati West Assembly seats.
For the 2026 elections, the BJP has fielded a new candidate, Diplu Ranjan Sarmah, from the reconstituted New Guwahati seat.
Before delimitation, the region fell under the Gauhati East constituency. In the 2021 Assembly elections, BJP leader Siddhartha Bhattacharya won the seat with a decisive mandate, securing 1,13,461 votes defeating Congress candidate Ashima Bordoloi by a margin of 84,100 votes.
