Union minister Piyush Goyal on Wednesday said in the Lok Sabha that India and the United States held extensive negotiations over the past year to finalise various aspects of their bilateral trade agreement. He said talks were conducted at multiple levels, with both sides seeking to protect their key and sensitive interests.
"During the discussions, the Indian side was successful in safegaurding the interests of its sensitive sectors, especially agriculture and dairy...With a year of discussions, the two sides succeeded in giving the final form to various sectors of the bilateral trade agreement," Goyal said.

Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday displayed what he described as an unpublished memoir of former Army chief General M. M. Naravane while addressing the media and later referred to it within the Parliament premises. Gandhi said he intended to personally hand over the book to Prime Minister Narendra Modi if the Prime Minister attended the Lok Sabha, adding that the country should be made aware of its contents.
"I don't think PM will have the guts to come to the Lok Sabha today because if he comes, I am going to give him this book. If the PM comes, I will go physically and hand him this book so he can read it and the country can get to know the truth. Every youngster in India should see that this book exists. This is Mr Naravane's book. He has given an entire account of Ladakh in this book; I have been told that I cannot quote this book," Rahul Gandhi said.

Congress Lok Sabha MPs will hold a meeting at the Congress Parliamentary Party office to finalise their strategy for proceedings in the House during the ongoing Budget Session.
The meeting comes in the wake of a standoff in the Lok Sabha between the opposition and the Treasury benches. The confrontation followed remarks by Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, who referred to an unpublished memoir by former Army Chief General MM Naravane.
Amid the disruption, eight opposition MPs were suspended from the Lok Sabha for the remainder of the Budget Session for violating House rules and allegedly throwing papers on the Chair.

Parliament Budget Session 2026 Live: Both Houses take up motion of thanks to President’s address
Both Houses of Parliament will continue the discussion on the motion of thanks to the President’s address on Wednesday as the Budget Session progresses. In the Lok Sabha, the motion, moved by Sarbananda Sonowal and seconded by Tejasvi Surya, has been allotted 18 hours for debate, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to reply later in the day.
In the Rajya Sabha, the motion of thanks was moved by BJP MP Sadanand Master. The debate follows President Droupadi Murmu’s address to the joint sitting of Parliament on January 28, which marked the start of the Budget Session.
According to the day’s List of Business, MPs Jair Parkash and Balashowry Vallabhaneni are also slated to table reports of the Public Accounts Committee for 2025–26.

Opposition members raised slogans, displayed banners and placards, and stood in the Well and the aisles of the House. Sandhya Rai, who was in the Chair, adjourned the proceedings within minutes.
Earlier in the day, the Lok Sabha had been adjourned till 5 pm following an uproar over remarks made by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey targeting the Gandhi family.
As Dubey kept listing books and what they said about various members of the Gandhi family, Tenneti said he cannot allow this as the Speaker had already given a ruling, disallowing such comments.
Tenneti cited Rule 349 to not make such remarks.
Rule 349 bars members from reading from any book, newspaper or letter except in connection with the business of the House.
As opposition members strongly protested and with Dubey unrelenting, Tenneti adjourned the House till 5 pm.
