Parliament Winter Session 2025 Live Updates: Lok Sabha shifts ONOP report submission to last week of Budget Session 2026

BJD Rajya Sabha member Manas Ranjan Mangaraj on Thursday appealed to the government to relocate Parliament's Winter and Budget sessions out of Delhi until air quality improves, calling the capital's annual pollution crisis a "man-made disaster".

Union minister and BJP President J P Nadda on Thursday tore into the Opposition Congress, accusing the party of being opportunistic and not according due respect to the national song Vande Mataram.

Concluding the debate on Vande Mataram in the Rajya Sabha, Nadda asserted that the government does not want to tarnish the image of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and that its only intention was to set the historical records straight. (PTI)

Lok Sabha extends the time for the presentation of the report of the joint committee of Parliament scrutinising the Constitution (129th Amendment) Bill, which proposes simultaneous Lok Sabha and assembly elections, to the first day of the last week of Budget Seasion, 2026.

Committee chairman PP Chaudhary moved a motion which was approved by Lok Sabha with a voice vote.

“He used foul language, his hands were shaking. Mentally, he is under pressure, and it was seen in Parliament. Whatever I had asked, he gave no replies and provided no proof. I challenged him openly to discuss over my press conferences, but nothing happened. Everyone now understands the reality," says LoP Rahul Gandhi.

Congress MP Manickam Tagore on Thursday countered Union Home Minister Amit Shah's remarks on the 1946 leadership selection within the Indian National Congress, stating that claims of "vote chori" in favour of Jawaharlal Nehru were historically inaccurate.

Tagore, in a detailed post on X, said the process was determined through Provincial Congress Committee (PCC) nominations and Mahatma Gandhi's intervention, not through any electoral contest. His statement came following the Union Minister's claim in the Lok Sabha that in 1946, "PCCs chose Patel, Nehru got two votes, and someone stole the election."

Tagore disputed this version of events, calling it a "myth" and citing Congress records, letters and historians. "What really happened in 1946 -- Patel, Nehru & the 'vote chori' myth Shah claims that in 1946, "PCCs chose Patel, Nehru got two votes, and someone stole the election." According to Tagore, the Congress was selecting its President in 1946, a position that would automatically lead the Interim Government, effectively the head of government, before independence. He said Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel had overwhelming support from the PCCs, receiving 12 out of 15 nominations, whereas Nehru did not receive any. (ANI)

BJP MP Kangana Ranaut launched a sharp attack on the Congress during her address in the Lok Sabha, taking a direct swipe at the Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi while intensifying her criticism of the Gandhi family. Speaking amid the already heated political atmosphere, the actor-turned-MP accused the Congress of spreading misinformation and lacking integrity.

During her address, the BJP leader extended an apology to the Brazilian woman, whose picture Rahul Gandhi alleged was registered in place of another voter in Haryana during assembly elections as part of the party's "vote chori" campaign, despite the woman's repeated clarification on social media.

Apologising to the woman, Ranaut said, "Every woman is entitled to her dignity. But the woman of international origin had to repeatedly clarify on social media, disregarding the claims linking her to the Haryana election. Despite this, they repeatedly used her pictures without any proof. On behalf of the Indian Parliament House, I apologise to the woman." "They always disrespect women...Our Prime Minister does not hack votes, he hacks people's hearts," Ranaut added, countering the Opposition's criticism with a strong defence of the Prime Minister's credibility and governance model. The House will then begin discussions on electoral reforms.
