PM Modi Brazil Visit Live Updates: PM Modi meets Malaysian counterpart Anwar Ibrahim on Brics sidelines

PM Modi is holding wide-ranging delegation-level talks with Argentina's President Javier Milei to explore cooperation in areas like defence, agriculture, mining, oil and gas, renewable energy, trade, and investment.

On PM Modi's visit, India's Ambassador to Brazil Dinesh Bhatia says, "India and Brazil are very close countries. India opened its first embassy in Latin America in 1948. Since then, we have had a very close relationship. In 2006, we elevated the relationship to a strategic partnership, and since then, we have continued to move from strength to strength...This is the Prime Minister's 4th visit to Brazil. He has been here thrice before, but this is the first time he's making a state visit."

He further said, "We are expecting that an MoU on counterterrorism will be signed between India and Brazil bilaterally during the state visit of the Prime Minister."

Modi will hold wide-ranging talks with Argentina's President Javier Milei to explore cooperation in areas like defence, agriculture, mining, oil and gas, renewable energy, trade and investment.

"We will focus on advancing our mutually beneficial cooperation, including in the areas of agriculture, critical minerals, energy, trade, tourism, technology, and investment," Modi had said.

Argentina holds the world’s second-largest shale gas reserves and the fourth-largest shale oil reserves. It also has significant conventional oil and gas deposits, positioning it as a potential long-term energy partner for India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that he was honoured to receive a warm welcome from the Indian diaspora in Argentina.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister wrote, "Distance is no barrier when it comes to cultural connect! Honoured by the gracious welcome from the Indian community in Buenos Aires. It is truly moving to see how, thousands of kilometres away from home, the spirit of India shines brightly through our Indian community."

PM Modi is on an official visit to Argentina at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Argentina, Javier Milei. PM Modi is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with President Milei to review ongoing cooperation and discuss ways to further enhance India-Argentina partnership in key areas, including defence, agriculture, mining, oil and gas, renewable energy, trade and investment, and people-to-people ties.

Members of the Indian diaspora are eagerly awaiting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's arrival in Argentina, saying that the "josh is very high" for the PM's visit in the South American nation.

Speaking with ANI, Saurabh Luthra, an Indian diaspora member, said, "The Josh is very high right now. We are fortunate that we will meet the PM... We hope that India-Argentina ties are strengthened even more."

Another Indian diaspora member, Suruchi Chhabra, expressed her excitement, saying that PM Modi is a world leader who has motivated Indians.

"I live in Argentina. I am an Indian American. We are so proud that PM Modi is visiting here. It is very exciting. We are grateful on behalf of the entire community... PM Modi is a world leader who has motivated Indians so much. He has always stood for us... We are very happy with what PM Modi has done for us and will do for us going forward," she said.

Another member of Indian diaspora said, ""I am from Jharkhand and I have been living in Argentina for the last 30 years... We are delighted that someone from our country is visiting here. We are pleased that PM Modi is coming here for the second time.,"

PM Modi is set to arrive in Argentina for the 3rd leg of his five-nation tour after concluding his visit to Trinidad and Tobago.

On PM Modi's visit, President of CIARA, Argentine Edible Oil Association, Gustavo Idigoras says, "This visit of PM Modi in Argentina will be the most important visit in the last 20 years. Argentina needs to have a closer economic and commercial relationship with India. We are promoting better dialogue. The Argentine administration and President Milei are totally convinced that he needs to work more closely with PM Modi. We are very happy to receive him with the idea to boost and double the bilateral trade, which is currently more than 5 billion. Our idea is to try to reach more than 8 billion in the next 3-4 years..."

PM Modi will travel to Argentina on an official visit on July 4and 5, at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Argentina, Javier Milei. PM Modi is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with President Milei to review ongoing cooperation and discuss ways to further enhance India-Argentina partnership in key areas, including defence, agriculture, mining, oil and gas, renewable energy, trade and investment, and people-to-people ties.

On India-Argentina cooperation in various sectors, Ambassador of India to Argentina Ajaneesh Kumar says, "There is a wide segment of sectors in which the two countries are cooperating already and some of them we need to open the doors and windows for the future... We have a good cooperation going between the energy companies of India... We have a good representation of Indian two-wheelers in Argentina... Argentina is a major agricultural country, and we have tractors present here... There is another sector which needs to be looked at very carefully, and Argentina can make use of, and that is the Indian pharmaceutical and medical devices sector... India is called the pharmacy of the world, and the medical devices made in India are of top grade. They have found markets all over Europe, in the European Union as well as in the United States... I don't see any reason why they cannot come to the Argentine market and the people of this country benefit at a cheaper cost and good quality..."

Giving a brief about PM Modi's programs in Argentina, Ambassador of India to Argentina Ajaneesh Kumar says, "Prime Minister arrives late in the evening... He will be received by the community... The next day, the Prime Minister will pay his respects and homage to the father of the Argentine nation. He's commonly known as the Libertadores Plaza de San Martín. At the Plaza, he would be joined by the foreign minister of this country. Thereafter, he will have an official delegation-level meeting at the Casa Rosada, which is the president's office. He will meet the President of Argentina, Javier Milei. In the afternoon, before he departs, we have scheduled a small visit for him at the Boca Juniors Stadium, where he will get a look at the Argentine football..."

On India-Argentina prospects, Ambassador of India to Argentina Ajaneesh Kumar says, "It is very promising because the relationship is based on complementarity. What Argentina has, we need, and what India has, Argentina can perhaps look at it because they need some of those items... Today, India is a leading defence manufacturer and exporter. The recent operation Sindoor showcased some of India's brilliant achievements, both in technology and performance. Argentina has a new market to explore, and with this kind of relationship based on complementarity, the possibilities are endless. It is only for us to find new ways and means to go for it..."
