A saffron wave had swept Uttar Pradesh in 2014 when the BJP and allies won an unprecedented 73 out of the 80 seats in the state. However, the contest seems more evenly poised this time with rivals SP, BSP and RLD joining hands to defy the Modi juggernaut.
