Operation Sheruwali: Army establishes contact with terrorists in J&K's Rajouri; encounter under way
NEW DELHI: The Army on Saturday said contact had been established with terrorists in the Gambhir Muglan area of Rajouri during a joint intelligence-based operation with Jammu and Kashmir Police and the CRPF. The movement of two to three terrorists was suspected in the area, as per news agency PTI.In a post on X, the Army’s 16 Corps said the encounter began at around 11:30 am after security forces launched the operation in the area. Troops responded with what the Army described as “calibrated action” after coming under contact.
Officials said the cordon-and-search operation was launched in the Dorimal-Gambhir Moghala belt following intelligence inputs about the presence of suspected terrorists in the area. A joint team of the police, Army and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) cordoned off the area and carried out extensive searches, they added. Additional reinforcements were rushed to the spot, while the operation was still underway when reports last came in, officials said.
