It's a good opportunity to go up against arguably the world's best side, and for our batsmen to go up against that bowling line-up of theirs. It was a big thing to get through the group stages. It was something we couldn't replicate back home, and it's been a massive event back home and for us here. Frylinck comes into the side today, he's fit to go. Everyone back home is quite inspired by what we have done and we had some amazing messages over the last few weeks.

We'll bowl first. The tosses have been a big factor, and when I've won a couple we'll do what we wanted to do from Day 1. It's been an honour to captain India and I've done my best. The shortest format has to give way for the longest format. I've been grateful for the opportunity. It's time for the next lot to take the team forward. Rohit has been looking on anyway, and Indian cricket is in good hands. Rahul Chahar comes in for Varun Chakravarthy for today's game.

Pitch Report
"The wicket is beautiful, nice and dry and compact, so the ball will go through beautifully. Not much of an advantage batting first or second. The only advantage batting second will be the dew, so it will be harder to hold the ball, but the wicket is beautiful to bat and bowl on." - Shane Watson

After the ODI World Cup and the World Test Championship, New Zealand once again officially ended India's disappointing T20 World Cup campaign, beating Afghanistan by 8 wickets on Sunday. But the next T20 World Cup, in Australia, is barely a year away. Preparations for that should begin in right earnest with the T20 series against New Zealand, which starts in Jaipur three days after the final of this World Cup. The forthcoming series presents India with the perfect opportunity to rest fatigued multi-format players and infuse some fresh blood.

Being on the road for six months is a huge ask. Players haven't gone home and I think they had a short break after the last IPL got suspended (in May). They have been in a bubble for six months and that takes a huge toll, so specific to your question, may be a short break between IPL and World Cup could have done a lot of good for these boys.

Asked if the absence of a break between IPL and T20 World Cup became a factor in the underwhelming show, India's outgoing bowling coach Bharat Arun responded in the affirmative. The IPL ended on October 15, and India's World Cup campaign began on October 24.

Cricketing giants India exited the Twenty20 World Cup after New Zealand beat Afghanistan to book the second semi-final berth from Group 2 on Sunday. Virat Kohli's team came into the tournament as hot favourites but let their future depend on other teams after big losses to rivals Pakistan, who were the first team to make the final four, and then the Kiwis. India thrashed Afghanistan and Scotland but it was all too late and now they find themselves out of the tournament even before their final game against Namibia on Monday.

* India will be playing their 150th T20I match tonight. They've won 94 and lost 51 of those, making their win percentage of 64.8% second only to Afghanistan's 68.1%.

The perils of not waking up early in a tournament as unforgiving and unpredictable as a T20 World Cup finally took the expected toll on the Indian team on Sunday evening. On the eve of their last league game in Group Two against minnows Namibia, Virat Kohli & Co. bowed out of a campaign in which they never really belonged. The two losses to Pakistan and New Zealand -i n which they got outplayed - had already put India on the exit path. From there, it was more of a battle pitching hope against hope and it eventually all came crashing with New Zealand's eight-wicket win over Afghanistan.

Head-to-Head: India vs Namibia

This will be India's first T20I encounter against Namibia. The only other time they faced each other was in the 50-over World Cup of 2003.

Namibia have managed to beat only Scotland so far in their Super 12 engagements after making the tournament-proper for the first time in the T20 format.

We didn't make runs, no other reason: Gavaskar on India's T20 World Cup debacle

The Indian batters' failure to score enough against strong teams was the primary reason for the team's ordinary campaign in the T20 World Cup, said legendary former captain Sunil Gavaskar, urging the side to change its approach in power-play overs. India were knocked out of semifinal contention after losing their first two Super 12 games against Pakistan and New Zealand at the ongoing showpiece in the UAE.

What next for captain Kohli?
It is still not clear whether Kohli will be seen as a one-format captain in Test matches but his performance in the last four ICC tournaments leave a lot to be desired. Now that he is approaching mid 30s and showing signs of playing a conservative game, one can only hope that with eleven months left for the next T20 World Cup, India would start with a fresh slate and fresher approach.

Hardik, as a pure batter, failed against quality attacks
A combination of factors led to this debacle and if Kohli's poor captaincy and selection is one factor, the problems were certainly compounded by players like Hardik Pandya, who did not reveal the full extent of their fitness status to the national selectors. While Pandya did show his original self against Afghanistan, he would get very little credit for that performance after failing to score as a pure batter against quality attacks like Pakistan and New Zealand.

India failed to reach at least semis in almost a decade
It is also the first time since the 2013 Champions Trophy that an Indian men's team has failed to reach at least the semi-final stage of an ICC event. They were champions in the 50-over Champions Trophy in 2013, followed by runners-up finish in T20 World Cup in 2014. In the 2015 ODI World Cup, the team lost in the semifinals. The 2016 T20 World Cup saw them reach the last four stage while they lost to Pakistan in the 2017 final of the 50-over Champions Trophy. In 2019, their ODI World Cup campaign ended in the semi-final and the two-year long World Test Championship also ended in a finale defeat.

For Virat Kohli, this wasn't how he would have liked to end his T20 captaincy stint with the national team having already quit IPL captaincy.
