But when the team needed him to step up in the second innings, Pant came up with a heroic knock hitting 97 runs, falling short of a deserving hundred by just three runs. One error in judgment and Cheteshwar Pujara's dogged 77-run knock came to an end. India now have a batsman with pulled hamstring (Vihari) and Ashwin at the crease and need 127 more runs to win.
