Update
Good signs. The covers are being peeled off the ground, which indicates there isn't an immediate sign of rain returning and umpires satisfied with ground conditions.

Update from Brisbane
Live pictures showing rain seems to have stopped but the covers remain in place. The two umpires are out there with folded umbrellas to have a look at the ground conditions.

Rain stops play
The post-tea resumption of play has been delayed as there hasn't been much change in the weather conditions at The Gabba, and the forecast for the rest of the day isn't great either. Stay tuned for more updates.

Rain arrives, tea taken
Slightly early Tea announced by the umpires as rain arrives at The Gabba. Australia 243/7; Pat Cummins batting on 2, Mitchell Starc on 1. A collective effort by Smith (55), Warner (48), Harris (38) and Green (37), with an 89-run opening partnership, has put Australia's noses slightly in front here. But much will depend on the time left in the game, with rain coming into play once again. Led by Siraj and Thakur's three wickets each, India roared back with quick blows after the Warner-Harris opening stand to not let the Aussies off the hook. Stay tuned for updates on the weather and when play resumes in the final session on Day 4.

OUT! Tim Paine gets a faint edge while trying to pull a bouncer that was head-high and well outside off. Caught by Pant. The Test match keeps getting special for Thakur as the pacer picks up his third wicket. Australia 242/7, lead by 275.

A bit of leg-cricket by the skipper

A couple of 'high-fives'
09:51 (IST) Jan 18
Paine (24*) taking on the off-spinner now, and being innovative two. After hitting Sundar for a boundary to fine leg, the Aussie skipper goes for a reverse-sweep and pulls it off to bring up another boundary. Australia 239/6, lead by 272 runs.
09:36 (IST) Jan 18
Shardul strikes! And India get the sixth Australian wicket in the form of Green (37) who is caught by Rohit in the slips. Australia 227/6, lead by 260 runs.

Green brings up Australia's 200 with a four. Australia 202/5, lead by 235 runs.

OUT! Smith has to walk back.
A cracker of a delivery from Siraj. It reared up sharply after possibly hitting a crack, leaving Smith (55) in an awkward position; and he gloved it straight to Rahane. To check if his hand was on the bat handle at the time of contact with the ball, he asked for a review, but to no avail. He's out. Australia 196/5, lead by 229 runs.
09:01 (IST) Jan 18
Runs starting to flow for Australia with two fours in Sundar's over. First an edge to third-man off Smith's (55*) bat and then a sweep from Green (20*) to end the over.

Dropped!
The return catch from Green (14*) carried to Siraj, but it wasn't easy to take it to his right, which was against the momentum of his follow-through. But still a lost opportunity, nevertheless. Aus 185/4, lead by 218.
