New selection committee for Sri Lankan cricket

COLOMBO: The Ministry of Sports of Sri Lanka on Thursday appointed a new selection committee for Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), which will be headed by former selection committee chairman Asantha de Mel.The four-member selection committee will include former national cricketers -- Amal Silva, Hemantha Wickremaratne and Don Anurasiri.While Silva is a former Test opener, Wickremaratne is aformer ODI player and Anurasiri, a former Test left-arm spinner, is the solesurvivor from the previous panel.The previous selection committeewas headed by Duleep MendisThe minister also informed that a furthermove to change the captain and the head coach of the team is under considerationas well.The reshuffle came after Sport Minister MahindanandaAluthgamage ordered the chief of SLC, Upali Dharmadasa to submit a report on thesagging fortunes of the national team in South Africa.Sri Lanka arealready 0-3 down in the five-match ODI series.
