Xiaomi has confirmed that both the 17T and 17T Pro will ship with a Leica-tuned 5x telephoto camera, putting a periscope-grade lens on the standard model and not just the Pro. The phones launch globally in Vienna on May 28, and the 17T heads to India on June 4 — the first T-series device the country has seen since the 11T Pro in 2022.
The telephoto carries a 115mm equivalent focal length, which is long even by current flagship standards. Xiaomi's global team says the lens delivers 10x "optical-quality" zoom (essentially a hybrid crop) and stretches to 120x via AI Ultra Zoom. Resolution hasn't been officially confirmed, but multiple leaks point to a 50MP sensor on both models.
In most lineups, the longer telephoto is the Pro's headline differentiator. Xiaomi is going the other way. By making the 5x Leica lens standard across the series, the 17T inherits a feature usually paywalled behind the Pro badge. Xiaomi India is leaning in, branding the phone as "The Telephoto Master" in its early teasers.
Xiaomi 17T India launch: specs, price, and more
India is only supposed to be getting the standard 17T. The 17T Pro stays a global exclusive. The 17T is expected to pair the new telephoto with a 50MP main sensor and a 12MP ultrawide, wrapped around a 6.59-inch 1.5K LTPS display at 144Hz. Leaks also point to a MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Ultra, a 6,500mAh battery, 67W HyperCharge, and IP68 protection.
European pricing has leaked at €749 (roughly Rs 71,000) for the 12GB/256GB base model, though Indian pricing typically lands lower.
