The countryside of Malaysia is peppered with miles of lush green rice fields. While these make for a pretty picture or two, this experience is amplified at Laman Padi. This Rice Garden, just opposite Pantai Cenang, offers a sneak peak into the lives of locals. It also provides a way of understanding the nuances of a new culture. Here farmers demonstrate the process of planting the crop; guides educate visitors about cultivating rice; and the museum provides a great introduction to the paddy industry in Malaysia. The machinery used for harvesting paddy can also be found on site and it’s great if you’re travelling as a family—kids love frolicking in the fields while learning more about this popular grain. The floating restaurant that is part of the Laman Padi complex offers a unique dining experience. The menu or food isn’t particularly spectacular but the concept more than makes up for it.
