Christine Brown reflects on past expectations in New Sister Wives episode: “It’s why I hated camping so bad”
The April 20 mid-season premiere of Sister Wives offered an emotional blend of reflection and fresh beginnings as Christine Brown, 53, and her husband David Woolley hit the road to help Janelle Brown relocate to North Carolina. The cross-country journey gave Christine a chance to open up about the unspoken rules and emotional strain she experienced during her plural marriage with Kody Brown, 56.
Now settled into her life with David, Christine used the long drive to candidly unpack the dynamics that once defined her relationship with Kody — and how they impacted her bond with fellow sister wives Janelle, Meri, and Robyn Brown.
“He liked makeup. It was like, you had to always, always look nice,” Christine recalled. Describing past family camping trips, she highlighted how uneven the division of labor often felt. “We’d go camping and Janelle and I would be sitting there busting our butts getting breakfast made, cleaning up the mess, and honestly, Robyn would be doing her makeup forever and doing our kids’ hair and doing her hair and making sure everybody looked good.”
What stung most was Kody’s response.
“And then, Kody would sit there and praise how they looked when we’d been sweating and slaving over the freaking food and cleaning up the campsite,” Christine shared, clearly still feeling the weight of those moments. “I think it’s probably the reason why I hated camping so bad.”
Janelle, 55, is now moving to North Carolina to live closer to her daughter Madison “Maddie” Brush, marking a new chapter in her post-Kody life. Meanwhile, Christine and David continue to build their relationship with mutual respect and support — a contrast to the burdens of Christine’s past.
The episode, layered with raw honesty, offered viewers another powerful look at how Christine continues to heal and grow after stepping away from plural marriage — and how far she’s come in reclaiming her sense of self.
