Former 'Shark Tank India’ judge Deepinder Goyal addresses the ‘10-minute delivery’ promise, says ‘partners don’t even have a timer’
Blinkit’s CEO Deepinder Goyal recently tackled criticism regarding the company's bold '10-minute delivery' claim, explaining that it relies on the locations of warehouses and effective packing strategies. He pointed out that the delivery riders usually cover less than 2 kilometers within 8 minutes, noting the absence of a timer on their apps as a measure of performance.
Fast delivery apps are all the hype in India right now, and Deepinder Goyal, founder of one of the biggest food delivery apps, is all about growing it. However, as of late, many netizens have pointed out that the “10-minute delivery” promise seems almost abusive for drivers and riders who sign up to earn from such applications. Addressing the rumors and allegations, the CEO posted a lengthy statement to his social media timeline.

On January 1, the new year was welcomed around the country. Deepinder Goyal took to his social media account to talk about the issue that many netizens have been having with the “10-minute delivery slogan” that a lot of fast delivery apps promise these days.
He shared that the slogan is there based on the proximity of the warehouse to your localized address. He stated that the order gets packed in 2.5 minutes, after which the driver has to fulfill the assigned delivery. He further added, “Delivery partners don’t even have a timer on their app to indicate what was the original time promised to the customer. After you place your order on Blinkit, it is picked and packed within 2.5 minutes. And then the rider drives an average of under 2 km in about 8 minutes. That's an average of 15 km/h.”

Deepinder Goyal shares his thoughts on the gig economy

The former ‘Shark Tank India’ judge further shared that he understands the concern of the people with the slogan and the promise it holds; however, he also urged them to understand that the system is being built and worked upon. He also urged people to directly talk to the people who deliver their food and groceries and ask them why they work for such jobs. “You will be humbled by how rational and honest they will be with you,” he further quipped.“If I were outside the system, I would also believe that gig workers are being exploited, but that's not true,” he concluded.
