Pakistani security forces killed five terrorists on Friday during an intelligence-based operation in the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, police said.
The operation was carried out in Darra Adam Khel town of Kohat district, around 30 km southwest of Peshawar. Police on Saturday said two Pakistani security personnel were also killed in the exchange of fire.
According to police, the action was launched following intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the area. During the operation, security forces engaged the militants, killing five of them, news agency PTI reported.
After the operation, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search and clearance operation to eliminate any remaining militants.
The situation in the area is being closely monitored with heightened surveillance.
Pakistan has witnessed a rise in terrorist attacks, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, following the end of its ceasefire with the banned
Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in November 2022. The attacks have largely targeted police, law enforcement personnel and security forces.
