Mathura: Two women were killed and 13 others injured after a speeding Uttar Pradesh Roadways bus lost control and overturned near Farah toll plaza on Delhi-Agra highway around 1 pm on Monday.
The bus was traveling from Goverdhan to Agra when the driver—who was allegedly intoxicated—lost control while recklessly overtaking another vehicle at high speed. According to passengers, the driver had repeatedly ignored their objections about his erratic driving before the crash.
The deceased have been identified as Sangeeta Singh (25) of Agra, who was returning home after performing the ‘Govardhan parikrama’, and Chanchal Singh Chahar (19) of Mathura, who was traveling to Agra to take a police recruitment exam. Chanchal was crushed to death after being thrown out through a window as the vehicle flipped. The driver fled the spot.
The crash triggered a massive traffic jam on the busy highway until police used a crane to clear the overturned bus.
Local police rushed the 13 injured passengers to Farah CHC and Mathura district hospital. SSP Shlok Kumar and DM CP Singh visited the hospital to review the victims’ conditions.
“The bodies of both victims have been sent for post-mortem examination. The injured passengers are currently stable and receiving the best possible medical care. Legal proceedings are underway, and we are actively tracing the absconding driver,” said SSP Kumar said.
