Agra: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Uttar Pradesh Clean Air Management Project (UPCAMP) Authority to collaborate on scientific, technical and institutional efforts aimed at improving air quality and advancing climate action across the state. The agreement was signed in Lucknow in the presence of Hekali Zhimomi, principal secretary, environment, forest and climate change department, state govt, and B Chandrakala, CEO of the UPCAMP Authority. Prof Sohail Ayub of AMU’s department of civil engineering signed the MoU on behalf of the university. He has also been appointed environmental and social focal officer for the project and will oversee its implementation at AMU under the guidance of the university administration. A World Bank-supported initiative of the UP govt, UPCAMP seeks to tackle air pollution through a coordinated, multi-sectoral strategy. The partnership with AMU is expected to strengthen research, capacity building, technical cooperation and knowledge exchange, while contributing policy inputs for effective air quality management. Ayub said the collaboration would allow the university to leverage its academic expertise and research capabilities to address pressing environmental challenges and promote evidence-based solutions.
