Agra: A 27-year-old man allegedly shot dead his estranged wife, 25, after an argument and then shot himself in the head with the same weapon in Suryanagar Colony on Govardhan Road on Thursday night, police said.
Pokhan Kumari (23) was a native of Kandhari village in Datia district of Madhya Pradesh, and her husband,
Mithun Kumar, was a resident of Jhansi who worked as a cab driver in Delhi-NCR. After a dispute with her husband, Pokhan had been staying with her friend Ragini in Mathura for the past few days and was working at a beauty salon. She had earlier worked at a spa centre in Gonda.
Pokhan and Mithun had a love marriage five years ago, police said, but they started living separately after differences cropped up between them as the woman suspected that her husband was having an extramarital relationship.
Mithun, who worked in Jhansi, tracked his wife down to Mathura on Thursday. “Around 9 pm, an argument broke out between the couple, apparently over an ongoing marital dispute that was being contested in court. Mithun allegedly put pressure on her to end the dispute, but she refused. In a fit of rage, he took out a country-made pistol and shot Pokhan,” said SHO Prashant Kapil.
Mithun later shot himself in the head with the same weapon, police said. Mathura SP (City)
Rajiv Kumar said the bodies had been sent for postmortem and the families of both the deceased had been informed.
