MBBS student in Georgia goes missing before taking flight home to Ahmedabad
Ahmedabad: A family from the city is desperately seeking answers after their son, an MBBS student studying in Georgia, allegedly went missing nearly 10 days ago under mysterious circumstances. Dhvanit Rajdeep, studying medicine at Caucasus International University, has been unreachable since May 14, before he was to board a flight back to Ahmedabad, his family has alleged. He was reportedly studying in the ninth semester of his MBBS course in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia.
Dhvanit, originally from Viratnagar in Ahmedabad, had earlier gone to Ukraine for medical studies but shifted to Georgia three to four years ago after the Russia-Ukraine war disrupted his education.
According to his parents, their last conversation with Dhvanit took place on May 14 around 1.30pm, after which his phone suddenly became switched off. The family has alleged that Dhvanit had repeatedly complained of mental harassment and threats from the landlord of the flat he had rented in Tbilisi.
His father Mayur Rajdeep, who runs a clinic in Odhav, alleged that the landlord, identified as Anil, along with his girlfriend and another associate, had been mentally torturing Dhvanit for several weeks. Disturbed by the alleged harassment, the student had allegedly shifted part of his belongings to another rented accommodation.
The family further claimed that Dhvanit had been threatened with dire consequences if he moved out. According to the parents, the accused allegedly demanded money from him and even confined him to a room when he returned to collect his belongings. The family said they transferred the demanded money fearing for their son’s safety.
Dhvanit had reportedly informed his family that he planned to return to Ahmedabad and had left for the airport with his passport on May 14. However, he vanished before boarding the flight and has remained untraceable since then.
The family has contacted the Embassy of India in Georgia and Georgian authorities, while an Ahmedabad MP has also taken up the issue with the Union ministry of external affairs.
Meanwhile, the family has sent another son to Georgia to coordinate with local authorities and look for Dhavnit.
