Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A 30-year-old man died on way to hospital after his two-wheeler caught fire in the Wajegaon area on the banks of the Godavari River near Nanded around 9.30am on Saturday.
Police said the incident spot was barely 200 metres from the local Eidgah, where a crowd was dispersing after Eid prayers. Eyewitnesses claimed of hearing minor blasts during the incident. "The man suffered severe burn injuries, with initial estimates showing 70% burns. He passed away while being taken to the govt hospital in Vishnupuri," police said.
Nanded superintendent of police Abinash Kumar said teams from the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and forensic experts inspected the site. "We have identified the victim and are cross-verifying the details. Videos recorded by bystanders show the motorcycle engulfed in flames, but there were no blasts. The probe is underway from multiple angles," he said.
The Nanded Rural police have registered a case of accidental death in this regard.
Kumar said Eid celebrations across Nanded remained peaceful and no untoward incidents were reported.
