Excise department official dies of suspected heart attack during Republic Day event in Dharashiv
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Mohan Jadhav (51), a sub-inspector with the state excise department, died of a massive heart attack during the Republic Day event at Talmod border area in Omerga taluka of Dharashiv district on Monday. Jadhav took pictures with other staff members and police officers after the flag-hoisting ceremony. Suddenly, he felt dizzy and collapsed. Harshvardhan Shinde, superintendent of police with the state excise for Dharashiv, said Jadhav was rushed to the sub-district hospital at Omerga, where doctors declared him dead. "The local staffers took him to the hospital in a private vehicle, but he died before treatment could be started. Jadhav suffered from diabetes and did not have any heart ailment," he said. A post-mortem was conducted at Omerga hospital. While the post-mortem report was awaited until Tuesday evening, local doctors suspected heart attack as the reason behind the death. Hailing from Solapur, Jadhav was recently promoted in the service. He is survived by wife, son, and daughter. His body was taken to Solapur, where his last rites were performed, authorities said.
Meanwhile, Beed district reported two suicide bids at govt offices on Monday. Vaijanath Surawase, a resident of Parli, went to the top floor of the Parli municipal council building and threatened to jump off. Surawase, who was observing a hunger strike demanding a probe into alleged corruption in the local civic body, was caught by the police. In another incident, a local resident from Beed climbed atop the DPDC building in a bid to commit suicide. According to police, the man's wife deserted him, and he sought help from the authorities to work out a reconciliation with his wife. Meanwhile, Republic Day was celebrated by different institutions, including govt and semi-govt offices, schools, and colleges in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and other parts of the region.
